 TATC Portfolio

The purpose of this site is to provide completed projects and documentation required for the Technology Applications Teacher Certification (TATC) Program offered through Education Service Center Region XI. The portfolio is a living document because it is constantly updated and revised. My portfolio will continue to change as I continue to grow and learn during the TATC Program and beyond.

» Goals - The goal page is a description of the short and long term goals I have set for myself in the Technology Applications field.

» Demonstration - The demonstration page is a reflection of my Demonstration Teaching experience.

» Observation - The observation page is a reflection of my Observation experience.

» Reflection - The reflection page conveys my thoughts about the TATC Program.

» TA Standards - The standards page provides a link to the individual standards and artifacts. The Technology Applications label is provided by each standard. The artifact title and description are provided below the artifact link.

My technology history is a combination of my personal and professional backgrounds, experiences with technology, and my profession as a teacher. My past experiences and future growth in the technology applications field will prepare me for the continuously changing world of technology.

Personal Background
I was born on January 28, in Waco, Texas. Mom, dad, and I moved to Garland, Texas, when I was six family weeks old. My brother was born five years later and our family was complete. We moved to Crawford and back to Garland. I spent my middle school and high school years in Garland I.S.D. I graduated from Garland High School in 1983. After a few years, I returned to Waco, graduated from McLennan Community College (MCC), and continued my education at Baylor University. I graduated from Baylor in December 1991 with a B.B.A. in Administrative Information Systems with minors in Accounting and Computer Information Systems. I decided to enter the Alternative Certification Program through Region XII in Waco and started teaching 5th grade in 1993. I have been blessed with wonderful parents, a great brother and sister-in-law, and a terrific 15 year old son.

Significant Personal and Technology Events in my Life
When I attended high school, electric typewriters were the "technology". I starting working with computers at McLennan Community College in the late 1980's. While attending Baylor University, I learned programming (COBAL) and software programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). I fell in love with technology upon the completion of these courses. This was in the early 1990's and it was an exciting time in the technology area. I am trying to stay current with the ever changing advances in technology.

Reasons for Wanting to be a Technology Applications Teacher
I want to be a technology applications teacher because it combines my love of teaching and my attraction to technology.

Preparing to Teach
The beginning of school is always a confusing, nervous, and exciting time for me. I cannot wait to get to know my students and their strengths and weaknesses. I love to learn each student's talents and let them grow and learn. The concerns I have for teaching technology is the fear that the students will know more about a software program than me. Sometimes as an adult it is hard to admit to a student that they know more about something than you, but I use it as a learning experience. I will have to stay "on top" of the current technology, so the students are prepared for the "real world".

Resume
My work experience includes both educational and non educational jobs. My resume may be viewed as a Microsoft Word document or Rich Text Format file.
