Standards III: Task Appropriate Tools in Problem-Solving
Use task-appropriate tools to synthesize knowledge, create and
modify solutions, and evaluate results in a way that supports the
work of individuals and groups in problem-solving situations.
This area is currently a high interest
category for me. I have been hired to teach some adult
computer courses for our community, and I anticipate that I will
have a wide range of abilities among my participants. I'm
teaching courses on digital cameras, printers and scanners,
and burning cds. I'm striving to reach the needs of my diverse
audience to help them in gaining knowledge of the hardware devices,
anticipate the problems they will have once they are on their
own with their technology, and be able to produce quality
results that they desire from their equipment.

Rationale:
I chose this artifact
because it addresses a problem (how to capture images) and provides
task appropriate tools for solving the problem (learning to use
digital cameras and scanners). After learning to use these
choices of hardware, the learner should then be able to synthesize
and create products that are acceptable to them based on their own
evaluations.
Implications for future:
I'm
excited to be able to use this PowerPoint, created months ago, for
the adult education courses I'm teaching this summer! I will
actually be able to use it for two separate courses and will add the
use of printers to the scanner part. I also plan to use this
presentation in all of my high school and middle school technology
courses next year. At some point I will probably have to
modify the presentation as our hardware changes, but having the
format already in place will make that transition easy.
Reviewer's Comments:
Your project was excellent. The detail you
gave on the digital images process was excellent. I would love to
pass this to the Journalism teachers for their photo training
program. Ray :)
