Substitute UserID's and passwords for the ones in the project instructions § Create a second web page file
that will be opened with a valid ID and
password § Test password file § E-mail the
HTML file and the Password PD.rtf file to to turn it
in.
Rationale:
After studying,
researching, and discussing security issues on the internet, this
assignment was intended to help us learn to use html while learning
to create a password secured site. I chose to include this as
an artifact because I was proud of my first html creation and
because it covered some very specific ta's that I felt might not be
covered in later assignments. I learned that I can master some basic
html writing, which was one of my goals for
TATC.
Implications for future:
I
gained confidence by forcing myself to use the html code by
conquering the set up of a password site. I also learned from
the discussion on this assignment that what seemed really secure to
me seemed very insecure to others because of being able to read the html on the password page. I plan to incorporate this
assignment into my teaching curriculum for all these reasons. I also
plan to incorporate more features into my web page design that
require a basic knowledge of html, which I didn't have
before.
Reviewer's Comments:
Good job on
the password assignment. I like the clues - you made me use my math
skills :-). You have the concept down and the page looks very clear
and crisp. Thanks for the introduction into password protection.

Title: Web Site Design
Course: 102 Web Authoring
Date Created: September 25, 2002
Source: Microsoft Front Page 2000
Media: Web Page
Description:
A travel company has commissioned you to develop a simple site
of 3 pages or more about at least ONE of their most traveled destinations.
Use all three of the following navigation schemes and apply the
information architecture of "bread crumbs"
· Global Navigation
· Parallel Navigation
· Local Navigation
Select from the list below the tone for the website.
Tone options:
· Cartoon
· Kids
· Community oriented
· Serious corporate
· Trendy/contemporary
Provide the following:
· A Storyboard of the site
· A Home Page
· Company Services provided
· Map/s
· Office hours
· Links to appropriate external sites
· A site map
Include the following elements in the site:
· Travel company logo
· Photos ... Graphic files should be optimized
· Three pages
Rationale:
This purpose of this assignment
was intended to help us create a simple website that included all
possible navigational structures including breadcrumbs, local
navigation, global navigation, and parallel navigation. As
part of the assignment we were to optimize graphic files, design a
graphic company logo, and develop a specific tone for the
site. I chose to include this as an artifact first because I
was pleased with my product, but also because it was my first effort
at really focusing on specific forms of navigation. I felt
that I learned a great deal from addressing that specific element of
the assignment.
Implications for future:
Now that I am
more aware of the types of navigation, my future web sites, and
those of my students, will be much more effective in providing users
with alternative ways to browse through the sites we build. I
have already incorporated the principles I have learned through this
assignment in the classroom, and I will continue to emphasize the
importance of these navigational structures in my teaching.
Reviewer's Comments:
The use of the globe, globetrotters name, and globe background
was very clever. All your pages loaded well. All
links worked. I thought the use on the globetrotter.net email
was unique. How did you do that? Do those email just go
out into the vast domain lost forever...or do you really have emails
here and you built the site to go with this? Great idea.
The green color was a very mellow touch for the site.
Basing this on educational tours....will you or the other "specialists"
use this in class. You should share.
