Welcome to my TATC
Portfolio Home!
Please come in and browse
through the pages of my life over the past year as I explored the
world of technology applications through the Technology Applications
Teacher Certification program, hosted by Region XI. Experience
my mountaintops and valleys, my growth, and the range of studies we
covered.

SIGNIFICANT FACTS My husband and I have been married for 14 years, and we
have two children, Link, who is 13, and Libby, who is 9. We
are active in our church, First Baptist Eastland, where
I am involved in children, youth, and ladies' ministries. I
also prepare the presentations as well as run our LCD system for
worship services. At school I sponsor middle
school cheerleaders and lead tours of Europe during spring break
each year.
REASONS FOR TEACHING TECHNOLOGY I
took a year off from teaching to work with my husband in our family
owned business and enjoyed the year away. However, the
"once a teacher, always a teacher" urge took over, and I wanted to
return to the classroom. The only opening was in technology,
and I had gained extensive experience in word processing, desktop
publishing, spreadsheets, and databases while working in our
company. I took the job thinking I would be teaching BCIS, so
imagine my surprise when my principal told me he had changed me to
web mastering!
PREPARING TO TEACH
TECHNOLOGY My only
experience with websites was in paying a handsome sum to have our
company's website constructed! I quickly began surveying all
my "techie" friends to see what program I could teach myself the
fastest, and Front Page seemed to be the front runner. I
basically stayed one page ahead of the kids all year last
year! Fortunately, I fell in love with page design
and had great fun incorporating a sense of flair and drama to it. I
am really proud of our site, considering how little I knew this time
last year! If you haven't seen it, take a look at http://www.eastland.esc14.net/.
Now I am
ready to learn the more technical aspects. Our website, my
students, and I have already benefited from what I've learned in
TATC.
