I've
been working with Adobe PhotoElements 2.0 and I wanted to try the PDF
slideshow that is a feature of the program. The key is to format your pictures
prior to making the slideshow. I took my original photos from our optimizing
assignment and reduced the size from 1200x1600 pixels to 600x800, imported
them into the pdf slideshow automation wizard. The pdf file was saved at a
low jpeg quality and the resulting slideshow was very good quality with a
size of only 158kb. You can open the file from the web, but to see the
slideshow feature, the file must be downloaded and then opened in Acrobat
Reader. This is a free download you can obtain from
Adobe Downloads.

I also
used the very simple and readily available Microsoft Gif Animator to make
another version of the slideshow. In this instance, I took my jpeg optimized
photos from the same assignment, and saved them as a gif image that was then
imported to Gif Animator. The three-slide file was saved and the resulting
file was a much smaller size show without transitions, but also only 55kb.
