Multimedia

The multimedia teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in multimedia, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

Reflection:  Multimedia to me, was not a word that I really knew what it meant until I started learning in my Technology Application Teacher Certification.  Multimedia is exactly what it says; multiple programs used to put together one media.  To present your project in one media can sometimes be the result of other programs being used to input items into that project.  Using Microsoft Frontpage 2002 to show media from Adobe LiveMotion (Digital Animation), Microsoft PowerPoint (Presentation), Adobe Photoshop (Digital Graphic Editing), Scanning Software, Cakewalk Pyro 2003 (Sound Editing), Microsoft Word (Desktop Publishing), Microsoft Publisher (Desktop Publisher), Flow (Flow Chart), Printkey (Desktop Graphic Capture), and so many other software programs can be used for Multimedia Projects.  There are so many different aspects of Multimedia.  Only the teacher can make a decision as to what their school can afford and teach that will meet the TEKS.  That is the role we have ahead of us as teachers.  I look forward to helping with that task now and in the future.

Title:  Notting Hill

Course: Multimedia 103

Date Created: March 11, 2003

Source: Individual Project from TATC assignment in Multimedia 103.

Media: Web Site

Description:  This was a Movie Integration assignment in the TATC Multimedia Course 103.

Rationale: This Web Site was to present information about our chosen movie and persuade people to watch the movie on our Web Site.  I chose to include this artifact because I used the skills I learned in Multimedia to make it.  It stands out above all the rest because, not only does  this Movie Integration have a lot of hard work put into it by me, it has lessons learned  in Multimedia put into it.  Such as the sound file that is on the home page which was edited and is the result of two sound files merged into one.  I used design skills learned in DTP class and of course Web Authoring class.  I chose this topic "Notting Hill" because I loved the movie and songs presented.  I already had the VHS movie and the CD soundtrack that I had bought.  So, it was all too handy not to pass up for this assignment.  I learned, from this assignment, that Multimedia is exactly what it says.  Media from Multiple programs put into one presentation.  I learned that it takes time to gather all the media and if you don't have a fast enough connection, it can take even more time over a 56k connection.

Implications for future:  Using Multiple Media Software programs to produce one presentation is something that I will need to understand in order to be able to teach the students how and why Multimedia works.  Technology is changing all the time and keeping abreast of changes is one way of understanding how Multimedia works together.

Reviewer's Comments: Really great work.  I've been extremely impressed with the products I've been reviewing for this course.  Wow...you have done a tremendous job.  Keep up the good work!

Title: My Photo Album

Course: Multimedia 103

Date Created: 2/25/03

Source: Individual Project

Media: Web Page using PowerPoint and Mpeg files.

Description:  This was an Interactive Internet Photo Album assignment in my TATC Multimedia 103 course.

Rationale:  This assignment was to consist of an introduction (Splash) animation page, a Photo Album consisting of at least 5 pictures that were a combination of vector and/or bitmapped graphics using some kind of presentation software.  I chose to use Microsoft PowerPoint software for my presentation of 'My Photo Album'.  I was to create a web site that housed all of the elements listed: a link to a video, brief description of the pictures, summary of bitmapped and/or vector graphics, a link to the presentation photo album, and a credits page.  I also listed a LiveMotion Export Report for an extra feature.

Implications for future:  'My Photo Album' was put together by all of the digital pictures that I had taken of my family in the past.  It was an enjoyable presentation to work on and one that I will keep for my own archives of the family.  Putting together Multimedia presentations from various software programs is an enjoyable venture in which I will try to convey to my students.  Multimedia is something the students can put to good use for their own good and enjoy at the same time.  I want to make it fun for my students to learn Multimedia and let them learn and have fun at the same time.  Multimedia in the future will only get better and more user friendly as time passes, I am looking forward to what lies ahead of us in this course of work.

Reviewer's Comments: I like the way you fit your PowerPoint better to the screen.  I should have done that.
