Video Technology

The video technology teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in video technology, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

Reflection: Video is a technology that I have not really been familiar with other than watching movies on TV and at the theatres.  I have learned a lot about video and the production of such.  Using Cakewalk Pyro to edit my music, Photoshop to edit my still graphics, and MGI Videowave to edit my Video, I have learned about what goes into making Videos...A LOT OF WORK!!!  I think that in the future, Video will only get easier for students to be able to get a grasp on and work with as software comes down in price and becomes more user friendly.  I look forward to being able to sit down and instruct in a daily classroom atmosphere and teach Video.  I will enjoy watching the students learn teaching through the TEKS.

Artifact #6

Descriptors: Music Video Project covering Music editing, Photo editing and Video Editing to end up with a Video Production.

Title:  Trisha Yearwood's 'Mr. Radio' Music Video

Course: Video 105

Date Created: April 2003

Source: Individual Project

Media: Web Page with Windows Media Video File.

Description:  This was a Music Video Project by producing it in the compression format "wmv", windows media streaming and promoting it via the distribution method of the World Wide Web.

Rationale:  I selected this as representative of my Best Work because I really enjoyed putting this together.  I think it shows.  The web page went together so easily for some reason and it flowed together.  This assignment helped me understand the production phase of video.  Learning how to edit sound and video and getting it to synch up together and for some sort of continuity is not an easy task.  By going through this process, I can better understand what it takes to put together such an assignment.

Implications for future:  After going thru this Music Video Project, I can better understand how the production process works and can pass on my knowledge to my students.  I can make the beginners mistakes and learn from them and pass along my mistakes to my students.

Reviewer's Comments: Works great James!  I really enjoyed the website and the video.  I had never heard that song before.  What a great selection.

Artifact #7

Descriptors: Camera Shots - Techniques Illustrating Lighting, Zoom shot, Background & Foreground shots, and Static shots.

Title:  Techniques Illustrated

Course:  Video 105

Date Created:  March 30, 2003

Source:  Individual Project

Media:  Web Page

Description:  Using my digital camera, I illustrated the techniques of different camera shots by providing a correct and incorrect example for each concept.  I also provided a brief explanation of the technique.

Rationale:  This assignment made me more aware of the correct and incorrect techniques of camera picture taking.  The distractions in a digital photo can be numerous and you need to watch out for these different distractions that take place in our everyday world, especially when making a video production.

Implications for future:  Now that I know more about the different techniques for taking digital photographs and video, I know what to teach my students to look out for whenever they start learning to make video productions.  It does make a difference!

Reviewer's Comments: Great job with your examples.  Loved the background.
