Flyer Lesson Plan


Sample of flyer to be corrected by students after studying four principles of design.

Assessment example. Could be written or oral.

Objective: Student will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the four basic principles of design with regard to desktop publishing. Those principles are proximity, alignment, repetition, and contrast. Knowledge will be demonstrated by the finished product--a flyer announcing UIL practice saved as a .pdf file.

Teacher Tools and Supplies List: The Non-Designer's Design Book by Robin Williams, Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat.

Concepts and TEKS: Study and learn the four principles of design presented by Ms. Williams and put them to use in the creation of a flyer which is saved as a .pdf file.

Procedures used in instruction: Lecture from Design Book. Class set of books would be very helpful. Give the students the sample and have them make corrections as each design element is studied. Possibly two days of instruction and one for completion of design. One to two days for class presentations of their final flyers.

Modifications: Work in groups of two. Critique work of neighboring groups. Create flyers for other teachers or organizations.
