I am a firm believer that where we have been greatly influences who we become, so I would like to share a bit of my history with you.

  How I got here

In the beginning...
I was raised in Gladwin, a small farming community in central Michigan.
I am the youngest of six children.
When I was a senior, Gladwin Community Schools bought its first computer. Since I wasn't in the Physics class, I didn't get to use the Apple IIe.
I graduated from Gladwin High School in 1982.
I earned an AAS in Medical Laboratory Technology from Mid Michigan Community College in Harrison, MI.
Several years later, I earned a BS in Computer Information Systems from Graceland College in Lamoni, IA.
After moving to south Texas, I completed alternative certification through UT-Pan Am in Edinburg, TX.
My only child is an extremely intelligent feline.
My hobbies include crocheting, learning new software, and reading. I especially enjoy a good technical manual.
I have included clips of my favorite pastime: spending time with Michael and Jenny, my nephew and niece.

How I got here...
My career in the hospital was short lived. While I was fascinated with the equipment, I wish I had realized that the lab and a weak stomach were not a good match.
I returned to college to become a math teacher, but enjoyed my programming classes so much that I changed majors.
My first job in public school was at Hidalgo High School in Hidalgo, TX. When I saw my lab for the first time, I was shocked to see a room full of computers exactly like the one we had in my high school. After two years with Apple IIe's, I provided a convincing argument to change to PC's. My students and I were responsible for maintenance and upgrades and it was a tremendous learning experience for us all.
I was amazed to see that students who struggled in the core courses would often excel in the computer classroom. It became apparent that the course of education was changing whether we were ready or not.
I currently teach at Slidell High School, in Slidell, TX. My classroom bears little resemblance to the lab where I began my career.

Where I want to go now...
Technology, including the TA courses, has the capability to enliven classrooms at all levels. At the secondary level, the TA courses provide a bridge for many of our "at-risk" students who are often not successful in traditional courses.
My short term goal is to become a more effective TA teacher, but eventually I would like to enable teachers to incorporate appropriate technology into the curriculum.
