Vision IT Institute

Vision IT is targeted at high-end computer users with an interest in the High School Technology Applications course curriculum. The focus of the Vision IT Institute is to provide an overview and familiarize participants at an introductory level with the practices, theories, and protocols of the HS Technology Applications courses and with the tools and curriculum to facilitate instruction in the areas of digital graphics and animation, web authoring, multimedia, and video technology.

The Vision IT Institute consist of 4 face-to-face days or 4 weeks online (offered either face to face or online) of HS Technology Applications course preparation training. The training addresses the application software and the TA TEKS that apply to the HS Technology Applications courses. The training is project-based. A part of each day/week is spent on specific software training with practice exercises along the way and a part is spent on developing the project with day/week 4 being the completion deadline. In the face to face offering there will be outside class time required.

The Vision IT Institute is a prerequisite to the Technology Applications Teacher Certification program. If you are interested in the TATC program, all 4 days/weeks of attendance and 100% participation in the Vision IT Institute are required.

If your needs are not what the Vision IT Institute was designed to address, the level of knowledge expected could be above what you have obtained at this time, the pace could be to fast, and the content could not relate. We are sorry if the needs of the specific audience that the Vision IT Institute was developed for do not match your needs at this time but the intent is to stay true to our intended audience.

Drawing your attention to this now will hopefully provide you a better understanding of the how and why of the Vision IT Institute curriculum and instruction. It may also give you some guidance into the entry skill level of the TATC program.

Demo, Trial or Freeware software will be provided for you to take home and practice with or referenced in the online course. Note: Adobe Trial versions do not let you save but you can do a screen shot and paste it into another program that will let you save.

Scope and sequence, rubrics, product descriptors, curriculum outlines, and project ideas along with other resources will be available.



Institute Objectives:

You will learn to ....

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of a variety of input devices appropriate for producing desktop publishing product
  • Model respect for intellectual property when manipulating, morphing, editing graphics, and text
  • Use strategies to navigate and access information from local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WANs), the Internet, and intranets
  • Demonstrate that tasks can be accomplished through technological collaboration and participation with electronic communities as a learner, initiator, contributor, and teacher/mentor
  • Research digital graphics as an art form and the impact of digital graphics on society
  • Seek and respond to advice from colleagues and other professionals in evaluating a digital graphics/animation product
  • Delineate and make necessary adjustments regarding compatibility issues, including, but not limited to, digital file formats and cross platform connectivity
  • Identify, create, and use available file formats, including text, image, video, and audio files
  • Participate in different roles and jobs of a multimedia production crew, including project manager, lead programmer, writer, art director, sound engineer, researcher, animator, and presenter
  • Import video into the digital format for integration into multimedia products
  • Demonstrate knowledge and appropriate use of digital and analog video systems, software applications, and communication in networking components
  • Compare, contrast, and appropriately use the various input, processing, output, and primary/secondary storage devices
  • Make decisions regarding the selection, acquisition, and use of video technology software, taking into consideration its quality, appropriateness, effectiveness, and efficiency
  • Engage in pre-production activities, including story boarding, script writing, production, contracting, and scheduling
  • Participate in different roles and jobs of a production crew, including executive producer, producer, director, engineer, script writer, editor, camera person, presenter, and audio technician
  • Apply appropriate post production techniques, including editing and creating control and/or time coated tracks, transitions, audio levels, background music, and special sound effects
  • Apply 2-D, 3-D, and multimedia animation effects to video
  • Create captions and titles for video and graphics
  • Demonstrate knowledge in outputting digital video to analog and analog video to digital
  • Establish a folder/directory hierarchy for storage of a Web page and its related and linked files
