Lisa Stultz: Hello
Sonya Lanham: Hi, I was just checking to see when you want to do the post conference.
Lisa Stultz: I'm ready when you are. I just emailed you some stuff about this, sort of.
Sonya Lanham: Do you want to do it now?
Lisa Stultz: Sure. Do you want to start?
Sonya Lanham: Ok, I just read your email. I am trying to view the video. What did you want me to look for? I know it is in an email. I will have my materials posted tonight on my page. I will email you what I want you to look for. I will start
Sonya Lanham: How did your lesson go?
Lisa Stultz: Well we have don 3 days and each day is getting better. Since we (Krista) and I are not their homeroom teacher, it has taken a little time for them to understand our expectations. The kids are flipping away. That for some reason is
Lisa Stultz: their favorite move. I wanted you to look for ways that Krista could have used more tech. in the beginning of this lesson. Also, were the students engaged? Did this seem like a student-centered lesson?
Sonya Lanham: Are any using claymation?
Lisa Stultz: Not yet. Since this is taking longer than we originally expected. The groups that have signed up for Clay Animation and Video Demonstration have been put off until after TAKS.
Sonya Lanham: This will be a great lesson for any future quilters. You would be surprise how many people cannot look at a pattern and break down the shapes. Do you think you will meet all your objectives?
Lisa Stultz: I definitely do. They seem to really be understanding the concepts.
Sonya Lanham: My internet is very, very slow tonight so if I get knocked off be sure to save.
Lisa Stultz: I will. I'm sorry, I know how frustrating that is.
Lisa Stultz: Do you have any more questions for me?
Sonya Lanham: Do you think you will meet all your objectives?
Sonya Lanham: I think I am repeating myself
Lisa Stultz: oops!
Sonya Lanham: It so slow I forget what I have asked. Will you do this lesson again?
Lisa Stultz: yes! In fact I just sent an email to our group messages describing it to see if anyone else is interested in this lesson, or developing another one.
Sonya Lanham: So the student felt it was worthwhile?
Lisa Stultz: I think so. They were willing to miss recess to keep going. I think that is a good sign.
Sonya Lanham: A very good sign. Will you keep it the same or is there anything about the lesson you would change?
Lisa Stultz: Well......... I would like them to scan one square and save it as a jpg. Then insert it into a Word document. They could duplicate it 3 times and then use the drawing toolbar to flip and rotate. Of course sliding is easy. I do stil
Lisa Stultz: l think that they have to physically move them first before it makes sense on the computer. What do you think?
Sonya Lanham: I think scanning is a good idea. Were they just drawing them in Word this time?
Lisa Stultz: Actually, no. They were given a paper with a 6" sqare divided into 4 equal parts. Next they were supposed to follow verbal directions to make the design. We started with an easy one. After manipulating the squares, students went to
Lisa Stultz: a website that allowed them to create quilt sqares by flipping etc. The only other technology that students actually use is in the demonstration of the knowledge they learned.
Sonya Lanham: I think using Word would be great. I have used it in drafting some patterns. I can see why they really enjoyed this lesson. Did you feel more comfortable this time around?
Lisa Stultz: Yes. Much more comfortable.
Sonya Lanham: I enjoyed this one alot more and look forward to the staff training this summer. My teacher is going to teach the part about WebQuest and I will teach the part about Composer. I hope the teachers will be able to use what they lear
Sonya Lanham: n about Composer to create class webpages.
Sonya Lanham: Do you want to go now?
Lisa Stultz: Sure. Do you want me to wait until I have looked at your materials? I could look at them and then email questions to you. What ever you think will work best.
Sonya Lanham: That will work.
Sonya Lanham: I am going to post my materials now.
Lisa Stultz: Okay. How long do you think you need to upload?
Sonya Lanham: If all goes smoothly about 15-20 min
Lisa Stultz: Great! I'll be back.
Sonya Lanham: see ya
Lisa Stultz: bye

Sonya Lanham: I have them posted. http://edtech.esc11.net/regximttc/spring06/slanham
Sonya Lanham: The Composer instruction is a large file and will take awhile to open.
Lisa Stultz: okay. I'll take a look. In the mean time. Here are some questions that I've been thinking about. In the Webquest training will the teachers work collaboratively? How will they do this? How long is the training scheduled for? What
Lisa Stultz: would you like for the outcome of the training to be? Now, I'm going to go look at your great stuff.
Sonya Lanham: Most will work on their own. Remember we are small campus where we have one teacher for each of the core classes in elementary, jr high and high school. K-3 are self contained and first grade is the grade we have two
Sonya Lanham: teachers. We will have two full days in the summer. We hope everyone will leave with a complete WebQuest but we realize some may not. We will follow up during inservice in August. We also hope the teachers after learning Composer
Sonya Lanham: will create and maintain teacher webpage but that isn't one of our objective for the lesson. Just a bonus.
Lisa Stultz: I had forgotten that your campus is so small. I bet that is great for creating a family feel. I really like your brochure. It is very enticing and I'm sure that it will get the teachers excited about coming to the training. I have
Lisa Stultz: a question. In the text box I can't read the words in large font. Should I be able to? It looks like a foreign language.
Sonya Lanham: I probably need to change it to a .pdf file. You just do not have that font on your computer. I am high school and don't usually do cutsy so it was a little different for me.
Lisa Stultz: Well you did a great job. I'm glad that it is the font and isn't my vision! The Communicator document looks very thorough. I'll bet that took quite a while to put together. The Power Point is great also. Would you say this is a stu
Lisa Stultz: dent -centered lesson, or teacher?
Sonya Lanham: Student centered. Are you familiar with WebQuests?
Lisa Stultz: Yes. I know that when the students are doing a WebQuest it is very Student centered. I was wondering if the teacher training will be student (teacher) - centered, or teacher (presenter) - centered. Have you done a Webquest lesson b
Lisa Stultz: efore? If so, how have you changed it?
Sonya Lanham: I haven't but the teacher presenting has used them. The training will be more teacher centered with lecture and the students working on their own WebQuest.
Lisa Stultz: Do you think that your teachers have the needed prior knowlege for this lesson? Or is there any needed?
Sonya Lanham: I don't think so. I did create one before in a TIFTech workshop. In the brochure they are told to bring ideas for a lesson.
Lisa Stultz: That sounds really good. I think your lesson will be a great success. Do you have any other questions?
Sonya Lanham: I will email you some questions about my materials so I will have something to post. Will you be able to get them to me tomorrow? I will look at your video and get back to you tomorrow if that is ok.
Lisa Stultz: Yes. I can do that. Do you have Macs at school? The video I sent you was made in iMovie and saved as a Quicktime video.
Sonya Lanham: No I don't
Lisa Stultz: Okay, well. I will have the other one uploaded early and I'll send you the URL.
Sonya Lanham: Sounds great!
Lisa Stultz: Talk to you tomorrow then.
Sonya Lanham: Bye
