Janel Brawley[9:21:23 PM]: yes, it is my favoriate!  I use to coach basketball and softball, BUT...

SueAnn Simpson[9:23:32 PM]: Tell me what you have planned.
Janel Brawley[9:24:30 PM]: yes, the teacher uses some technology in her class already; however, she gets very stressed when she has troubles.  My plan is to try and be a positive role model and assist her by guiding her through problem solving
SueAnn Simpson[9:25:21 PM]: What strategies do you plan to use to assist her.
Janel Brawley[9:26:42 PM]:  um...  guided practice, and not sure right at this moment... drawing a blank
SueAnn Simpson[9:27:25 PM]: You have met with your teaching and do you know what technologies she plans to use?
SueAnn Simpson[9:27:32 PM]: I meant "teacher"
Janel Brawley[9:29:07 PM]: Yes, she wants to use her ACTIVboard and the use of political cartoons. Currently she is using an overhead projector for this project and the photos are not clear. She would like me to show her how to use our new copy machine to scan photos, then insert them into a flipchart so that she can project them on her ACTIVboard
SueAnn Simpson[9:30:35 PM]: Maybe a guided practice along with step by step directions for use when you aren't available.
Janel Brawley[9:30:57 PM]: Yes, that is a good idea!

SueAnn Simpson[9:32:18 PM]: What will you see that will determine she has developed  some self-confidence in the area of technology?
Janel Brawley[9:33:15 PM]: She will be able to create and and implement technology integrated lessons using her ACTIVboard and/or copy machine scanner in the future
SueAnn Simpson[9:35:05 PM]: Your other goal relates to questioning strategies. What do you feel is an area that is of concern to you?
Janel Brawley[9:36:26 PM]: Because my communication skiills are weak, I do not feel confident when asking questions. I don't feel like I am a quick thinker and may not ask the appropriate questions at the right time
SueAnn Simpson[9:37:27 PM]: What strategy will you use to help you reach this goal?
Janel Brawley[9:38:40 PM]: I will need to be more prepared. Writing down my questions prior to my meetings will be a start
SueAnn Simpson[9:39:33 PM]: As I observe your coaching session, what evidence should I look for to determine if you have met your goals?
Janel Brawley[9:41:21 PM]: Do I present myself in a manner that the teacher feels comfortable with?  Do I ask the right questions (open-ended, leading)? Am I making eye contact?

Session 2: Janel as Coach - Sue Ann as Teacher

Janel Brawley[9:43:26 PM]: In your PD goals, you state that you want to improve your questioning skills, what strategies will you use to achieve this goal?
SueAnn Simpson[9:44:15 PM]: First I will review my video of my previous session with my mentee and make notes of my questions and facial expressions.
SueAnn Simpson[9:44:29 PM]: I will also write down questions I need to ask
Janel Brawley[9:45:59 PM]: You also mentioned that you want to assist teachers integrating technology into thier lessons to meet the needs of diverse learners, what type of needs will need to be met?
SueAnn Simpson[9:48:03 PM]: There will be students with learning disabilities such as dyslexia or low reading skills. There may possibly be ADD or ADHA. Sometimes these students are in the Special Education English classes.
Janel Brawley[9:48:40 PM]: How will the teacher be using technology to meet their needs?
SueAnn Simpson[9:49:54 PM]: She will be using the computer lab for research and developing a newsletter / magazine. It will involve using Publisher and a graphics program.
Janel Brawley[9:50:42 PM]: How will you assist her with this endeavor?
Janel Brawley[9:51:10 PM]: How will you know if she meets her goal of integrating technology into her classroom?
SueAnn Simpson[9:51:33 PM]: I will provide individual training for her on both publsher and working with graphics
SueAnn Simpson[9:52:10 PM]: When the assignment is finished, students will display their creations
Janel Brawley[9:52:54 PM]: How can I assist you in reaching your goals?
SueAnn Simpson[9:54:59 PM]: When you view my coaching session, I would like for you to look for my question style and if you feel I have improved. Last time, my questions came very slowly. Also, my body language and facial expressions. I would like for you to see if they match my coaching style. Last time I gave some really weird looks!
Janel Brawley[9:55:35 PM]: Sure, no problem.  Anything else I can help you with?
SueAnn Simpson[9:55:57 PM]: That is all I can think of at the moment.
Janel Brawley[9:56:10 PM]: Okay, well that is all I have.
