Janel Brawley[7:39:45 PM]: Well, are you ready to get this over with?
SueAnn Simpson[7:40:18 PM]: I'm ready...do you want to start?
Janel Brawley[7:40:25 PM]: Sure...
Janel Brawley[7:40:35 PM]: How did you feel about the lesson?
SueAnn Simpson[7:41:16 PM]: I think the lesson will be really good. Her students will definitely learn a lot from this assignment and cover a lot of TEKS.
Janel Brawley[7:41:47 PM]: What did you hear that makes you think the lesson will be successful at covering the TEKS?
SueAnn Simpson[7:43:09 PM]: The teacher has 30+ years experience and she knows exactly what she needs to incorporate into the lesson. She had all the TEKS speficied early on. And she was really excited about doing this.
Janel Brawley[7:43:48 PM]: Great.... what did you do to make the lesson successful?
SueAnn Simpson[7:44:37 PM]: We met several times to discuss all the details of the lesson. I made sure that the technology was available and that she is familiar with the software.
Janel Brawley[7:45:02 PM]: What, if anything, would you do differently?
SueAnn Simpson[7:46:18 PM]: Working on the student/educator sample has been quite challenging. Next time I would work together with the teacher to create the sample rather than create it on my own.
Janel Brawley[7:47:08 PM]: Yes, that is quite a process! As you coach, could I have done anything differently?
SueAnn Simpson[7:48:09 PM]: I can see I have improved since the first mentoring session. I still need to improve my articulation skills and questioning techniques.
Janel Brawley[7:49:58 PM]: I think you are doing great! I know we have all had a growth in areas of questioning techniques and I'm sure that as we continue to utilize these skills, they will only get better. I guess that is all I have... anything else I need to ask or do before I turn it over to you?
SueAnn Simpson[7:50:38 PM]: I think that covers it pretty much.

SueAnn Simpson[7:51:38 PM]: This time you were able to work with your mentee. How well did this go for you?
Janel Brawley[7:53:37 PM]: This experience was interesting. This mentee is much more assertive and knows exactly what she wanted; therefore, different issues arose. For example, she was very demanding in regards to the quality of the scan and played a large roll in the creation of the flipcharts.
SueAnn Simpson[7:55:37 PM]: I can see how this would be a challenge. How do you think her lesson will go?
Janel Brawley[7:58:28 PM]: I think she will provide her students with a greater variety of political cartoons that will be able to be viewed at a greater clarity. By using the ACTIVboard, the students will be allowed to view the images on a larger scale. I think she will be able to provide the students with many examples, which in turn should give them knowledge to read the cartoons/images that will be on the TAKS test.
SueAnn Simpson[7:59:32 PM]: Did she or you anticipate any problems?
Janel Brawley[8:01:06 PM]: At this time, we have her flipcharts created and she is in the process of printing them out on paper copy - just in cast the technology fails. At this time, the technology issue is the only anticipated problem, and it really shouldn't be.
SueAnn Simpson[8:02:40 PM]: Do you see anything that you would have done differently when working with a mentee?
Janel Brawley[8:05:41 PM]: Yes, occasionally when I was working with my mentee on the flipcharts, I felt as though I provided too much information. I know I should be more a resource so that the teacher moves in the direction to where they want to be. I must continue to work being a leader so that the teacher will thonk out loud about the lesson and make the adjustments on her own - without me "butting in".
SueAnn Simpson[8:06:35 PM]: It's really hard not to say, "you should do it like this. It would work better".
Janel Brawley[8:06:47 PM]: Yes, I completely agree!
SueAnn Simpson[8:07:58 PM]: One of your professional goals stated you wanted to effectively communicate using questioning strategies. Do you feel you have been successful achieving these goals?
Janel Brawley[8:08:55 PM]: I do not feel I have reached my goal as of yet. I know this is a process that I will have to continue working on. I do think I have become better than I was when I first started, BUT... I know I have a ways to go.
SueAnn Simpson[8:09:54 PM]: In what area would you most like to improve upon?
Janel Brawley[8:11:04 PM]: Pprobably in the area of being able to think ahead and be able to ask good leading questions.
SueAnn Simpson[8:13:38 PM]: I have difficulty in that area also. After watching your video, I think you did a great job. The things you asked me to look for where all there - good eye contact and good body language (you both seemed comfortable). Your questioning style was good also.
SueAnn Simpson[8:13:59 PM]: I've enjoyed working with you this summer. It has been a great experience.
Janel Brawley[8:14:30 PM]: The same here... it has been fun! Thanks for being so patient with me.
SueAnn Simpson[8:14:41 PM]: Your welcome
Janel Brawley[8:14:47 PM]: I guess if that is it... I'll sign off
Janel Brawley[8:15:01 PM]: thanks again!
SueAnn Simpson[8:15:02 PM]: Ok...
Janel Brawley[8:15:04 PM]: bye
SueAnn Simpson[8:15:07 PM]: and thanks to you
