SueAnn Simpson[4:31:21 PM]: OH ...Me too...there is so much to do
SueAnn Simpson[4:31:32 PM]: and I am leaving for Austin in the morning
Janel Brawley[4:31:36 PM]: yes, I hope I'm getting it put together correctly.
SueAnn Simpson[4:31:49 PM]: Me too
Janel Brawley[4:31:53 PM]: YIKES i'm sorry, do you hae everything you need?
SueAnn Simpson[4:32:17 PM]: I think this will be the last thing that we do together
SueAnn Simpson[4:32:35 PM]: i have other things to do - video clip and samples to get done
Janel Brawley[4:32:41 PM]: wow, great! I guess we will get this over with so you can move on..
Janel Brawley[4:33:01 PM]: do you want to start? or me?
SueAnn Simpson[4:33:14 PM]: I'll let you go first!
Janel Brawley[4:33:57 PM]: ok, here we go.... let me know if I'm not on the right page.
SueAnn Simpson[4:34:14 PM]: Ii'll try
Janel Brawley[4:34:26 PM]: How did you feel about the lesson?
SueAnn Simpson[4:34:55 PM]: I think it will be a good lesson that will hold the students interest.
Janel Brawley[4:35:18 PM]: What did you hear that maeks you think the lesson was successful?
SueAnn Simpson[4:36:16 PM]: The students easily relate to stereotyping. They ask questions and share experiences.
Janel Brawley[4:36:37 PM]: What did you do to make the lesson successful?
SueAnn Simpson[4:37:41 PM]: We made sure the lab was available and everything was in working order. Being prepared is the most important part and anticipating problems.
Janel Brawley[4:38:06 PM]: What would you do differently?
SueAnn Simpson[4:38:24 PM]: hmmm
SueAnn Simpson[4:39:26 PM]: Probably incorporate more into the presentation format, like audio. I know these students would be able to work with audio easily.
Janel Brawley[4:40:46 PM]: okay. What have you done in the past? Tell me about your understanding the lesson and learning and prescrive applications and strategies for improvement.
SueAnn Simpson[4:41:56 PM]: Most multimedia presentations have only been visual, not audio.
SueAnn Simpson[4:42:07 PM]: hold on..got a phone call
Janel Brawley[4:42:30 PM]: no problem.... What as your coach could I have done differently?
SueAnn Simpson[4:43:17 PM]: ok...
Janel Brawley[4:43:32 PM]: What as your coach could I have done differently?
SueAnn Simpson[4:44:20 PM]: I think you have done a great job. Communication was always just an email away.
Janel Brawley[4:44:43 PM]: okay, I think that is all the questions I'm suppose to ask. Your turn.
SueAnn Simpson[4:44:48 PM]: ok...

Session 2: Sue Ann as Coach - Janel as Teacher

SueAnn Simpson[4:45:42 PM]: I know you had problems getting together with your mentee. I know that was very frustrating. But looking at the lesson, do you think it will be successful?
Janel Brawley[4:47:20 PM]: yes. even though we did not see each other, but one time in person. I had many conversations with her over the phone and made several notes. She is even more excited about the lesson because of the technology component.
SueAnn Simpson[4:48:07 PM]: That is good. It helps them to be motivated.
Janel Brawley[4:48:38 PM]: yes, especially when you are in a class of 20 plus kids that you have all day long.
SueAnn Simpson[4:48:38 PM]: What problems did you or she anticipate?
Janel Brawley[4:50:02 PM]: The only problem that may occur will be lack of time. However, the lab is flexible so, it really is not a major issue.
SueAnn Simpson[4:50:30 PM]: That makes life easier.
SueAnn Simpson[4:51:12 PM]: What about your professional goals? Do you feel you have met them? One thing you wanted to improve was your questioning skills? How is that going?
Janel Brawley[4:53:06 PM]: I think they are a work in progress. I do feel that I have improved my questioning skills and I think with each time that I have an opportunity to use this coaching technique I will grow. I have even noticed that I carry them over into my personal life -- like in VBS today, I found myself asking those children open-ended, thought-provoking questions.
SueAnn Simpson[4:54:29 PM]: So you've been able to practice your skills outside of the classroom. That is a good way to improve.
SueAnn Simpson[4:54:52 PM]: Do you feel you have been successful with building trust with your mentee?
Janel Brawley[4:55:23 PM]: Yes. She is feeling confident about the addition of technology into her lesson.
SueAnn Simpson[4:55:44 PM]: Do you see any areas you want to improve upon?
Janel Brawley[4:56:48 PM]: Next time, I will want to make sure that I have more face-to-face communication with my mentee. I believe this will be easier this next go-around because we will be getting back into the school mode and everyone will be around - not gone on vacation, etc.
SueAnn Simpson[4:57:29 PM]: I do see how this would be better during the school year, though tough.
Janel Brawley[4:57:50 PM]: Yes, I'm sure it will bring on a whole new set of challenges!
SueAnn Simpson[4:58:01 PM]: LOL - most definitely!
SueAnn Simpson[4:58:12 PM]: Well that is all I have.
SueAnn Simpson[4:58:25 PM]: Thanks so much and I hope the next round is better for you.
Janel Brawley[4:58:54 PM]: Thanks, and I appreciate your patience. Good luck with the rest of the class and have a safe trip tomorrow.
Janel Brawley[4:59:00 PM]: Talk to you later.
SueAnn Simpson[4:59:01 PM]: Thanks
SueAnn Simpson[4:59:03 PM]: bye bye
Janel Brawley[4:59:03 PM]: bye
