Name of Lesson: Causes of the Civil War

Target Goals:

Student Goals:

  1. Understanding the five main causes of the Civil War taking into account the varying opinions of both the northern and southern people.
  2. Understanding the varying opinions of both the northern and southern people leading up to the Civil War
  3. Students will research, analyze and present their knowledge on a single cause of the Civil War.

 

Teacher Goals:

  1. Plan and implement a technology lesson that allows students to take a more hand-on approach to their education
  2. Become more comfortable using technology to enhance student learning.

 

Professional Goals:

  1. Develop coaching/mentoring techniques that assist others in the development of learner-centered technology lessons.
  2. Refine my cognitive coaching skills to include active listening.

 

Grade Level(s): 8th Grade US History

Number of Students: Approx. 100 Amount of Time: 2 Weeks w/ 6 in class 45 minute sessions. (3 for planning and research, 1 for audio product, 1 for visual product and 1 for class presentations)

  • plan with the librarian to schedule the LMC lab for research,
  • contact the TIS to book the computer lab for whole class instructions,
  • make sure that all students have access to the internet and follow the district AUP,
  • talk with monitoring teachers to determine if any accommodations need to be implemented for IEP students;
  • schedule extra equipment such as camcorders, scanners or cameras as needed.

  • Assignments will be broken down into smaller, less complex parts that include objectives and tasks due for each class session
  • Verbal instructions will be provided when needed for understanding.

Explain: Teacher will make sure that student have the necessary equipment and time to complete their project by holding her tutorials in the computer lab during the project. Teacher will use a seating chart assigned by group and equipment needs to monitor behavior.

Other: Teacher will schedule the TIS to be available in the lab and tutorials to assist students.
