reasons, including that cartoons may draw upon either an unfamiliar context or prior knowledge that the learner does not have in order to understand

Analyze cartoons that interest to the students. Discuss the event or issue that inspired the cartoon, if there are any real people in the cartoon, if so, who is portrayed; are there any symbols and what do they represent.

Examine cartoons in different formats - linear, flowchart. (Perhaps they just need a way to organize it that suits their strengths.)

2. Understand the importance of the expression of different points of view in a democratic society Recognize how varied view points can be shared through cartoons. Have an opinion. Describe the importance of free speech and press in a society.

Discuss the cartoonist opinion about the topic portrayed, do you agree with the cartoonist's opinion?

Connect cartoons that have a historical context to current events. What
historical figures could be replaced with political figures today and the
cartoon still make sense?

Various Technology and Skill Levels The teacher will scan and e-mail her cartoons using the new copy machine.She will then create a flip chart to present the cartoons in an easy to view presentation that will be projected onto the teacher's ACTIVboard. She will also include links in her flip chart to United Streaming to demonstrate the effects of political cartoons.
