
Week 1 - Pre-Lesson
Activity
1. Teacher starts off by asking three Pre-Lesson
questions (in order):
Pre-Questions
2. After the questions and discussions are over, break
into four groups. The groups will then assign roles to each member. The roles
are: Materials handler, Recorder, Reporter, and Maintenance.
3. Students will then as a whole group, watch the BrainPOP movie on photosynthesis from the teachers LCD
projector.
Task 1
1. Next the Recorder will use a laptop for their
group to record comments.
2. Instruct students to talk among their groups
about what new things they learned from the movie. Rule: they must use the
Bloom’s List “Remember”
on handout to Model Questions when questioning
each other.
3. Students may use the internet to answer
questions. All students will have a Dana wireless PC unless they are assigned a
partner with disabilities.
Task 2
1. Teacher will instruct Material handlers to come
to window to pick up groups plant, not touching it yet. Last plant is retrieved
from closet.
2. Instruct Material handlers to carefully remove
any foreign objects on plant. Some with foil and others with
shapes cutout.
3. Students will have 5-10 minutes to discuss what
they notice about their plant. Have the Recorder write it down.
4. After 5-10 min Teacher
asks Recorders of each group to share their observations and inferences with
class.
5. Teacher instructs Material handlers come to get
data loggers (probes) for their group. One will measure light, one humidity, and two will measure temperature for 10 days.
6. During rest of week one group will water their
plant while another will withhold water, one will leave theirs in the sun while
another will put theirs back in closet.
7. Students will observe the plant assigned and
use the observation
handout.
They may use the internet or library to research their type of plant and
see what it needs to keep alive.
8. Teacher will open the discussion each day using
the Model Questions from the Bloom’s “Understand” and “Apply” list to lead discussion.
Recorder will record group’s inferences and hypothesis about their plants.
Task 3
1.
Data
logger information is retrieved. Students put into graphs and analyze their
