Joy Hooker[7:20:12 PM]: What do you expect it to do for you students and teachers Howard McNutt[7:20:14 PM]: Webccat is a program that creates TAKS problems in English and Spanish from grade 3- 11 in the core areas Joy Hooker[7:20:36 PM]: Is it user friendly Howard McNutt[7:20:48 PM]: After a benchmark and using ASEIT the teacher will use desegregated data to analyze the weakness the students have. Howard McNutt[7:21:01 PM]: From there they will determine what TAKS objectives to target Howard McNutt[7:21:13 PM]: They will go to online to WebCCat Howard McNutt[7:21:23 PM]: log in, create a title page, Howard McNutt[7:21:35 PM]: search the database for TAKS objectives to meet student needs Joy Hooker[7:21:56 PM]: How much time do you think it will take the average teacher to produce the analysis? Howard McNutt[7:21:58 PM]: then select, view, save and print out the handout Howard McNutt[7:22:19 PM]: Actually the program does it all. Howard McNutt[7:22:28 PM]: The Facilitator enters the scan trons Howard McNutt[7:22:35 PM]: then the program tell all. Joy Hooker[7:22:50 PM]: So around 10 minutes Howard McNutt[7:22:53 PM]: So as soon as the teacher pick up the data from the Facilitator they can look at it Howard McNutt[7:23:04 PM]: I would say 10-15 min Howard McNutt[7:23:09 PM]: yes Joy Hooker[7:23:36 PM]: Will you need to do individual or small group training for the teachers Howard McNutt[7:23:53 PM]: Since i am at a 1-A campus and there are only 15 teachers Howard McNutt[7:24:00 PM]: I can handle all of them at one time Joy Hooker[7:24:27 PM]: Are they all at the same technology skills level Joy Hooker[7:24:41 PM]: How about any new teachers Howard McNutt[7:24:47 PM]: No, but all they need to do is click and select. Howard McNutt[7:24:55 PM]: All teacher are able to do that for a fact Howard McNutt[7:25:00 PM]: No new teacher to the district Joy Hooker[7:25:16 PM]: Will you take them to the lab or use a projector and demonstrate it Howard McNutt[7:25:31 PM]: I will have them in my lab and it has a projector there Howard McNutt[7:25:40 PM]: I would demonstrate how to use the software Howard McNutt[7:25:46 PM]: Then have them make 1 handout Joy Hooker[7:26:03 PM]: So they can get some hands on too sounds like a good idea Howard McNutt[7:26:05 PM]: After that they will continue on the rest of the 1/2 day to create and print out additional handouts Howard McNutt[7:26:23 PM]: It will def help in cutting back on the guess work Joy Hooker[7:26:45 PM]: Sounds like it what do the students say about it? Howard McNutt[7:26:59 PM]: I have use the program last year. Howard McNutt[7:27:11 PM]: The student like it when i used it to teach from. Howard McNutt[7:27:30 PM]: But, i would also create my own problems in Microsoft word on the same type of problems Joy Hooker[7:27:38 PM]: Do they find it challenging enough? Howard McNutt[7:27:43 PM]: So if they learned the concept they would make a good grade on it Howard McNutt[7:27:47 PM]: Yes Howard McNutt[7:28:04 PM]: the problems have the same objective at three different level of difficulty Howard McNutt[7:28:12 PM]: so it up to me to select between them Howard McNutt[7:28:29 PM]: They also have a choice between multiple choice and open ended answers Howard McNutt[7:28:39 PM]: A truly great program. Howard McNutt[7:28:52 PM]: It is also updated on a regular basis Joy Hooker[7:29:04 PM]: Could the students use it to create their own or peer questions? I am not familiar with it. Howard McNutt[7:29:15 PM]: Unfortunately no Howard McNutt[7:29:33 PM]: It requires that a user have administrative or curriculum user rights Howard McNutt[7:29:50 PM]: So it only Teachers and administrators using it Joy Hooker[7:29:57 PM]: When will you do this type of testing? How many times a year? Howard McNutt[7:30:02 PM]: But a student could easily be able to use it Howard McNutt[7:30:13 PM]: We are benchmarking ever 9 wks Howard McNutt[7:30:28 PM]: up till 6 wks before the TAKS test Howard McNutt[7:30:39 PM]: so we have i believe 3-4 opportunities Howard McNutt[7:30:57 PM]: to fine tool skills the students needs to focus on Joy Hooker[7:31:03 PM]: Will any of the material coincide with what they are doing in class at the time? Howard McNutt[7:31:33 PM]: Santa Maria has up the number of math teachers last year from 2 to 4 1/2 Howard McNutt[7:31:45 PM]: So each student has a math class and a TAKS Math class Howard McNutt[7:32:02 PM]: If they do not pass the benchmark Joy Hooker[7:32:15 PM]: Sounds great. We really need to work on bringing up our math scores Howard McNutt[7:32:18 PM]: they will be assigned to after school tutorials on Tuesday and Thursday for an hour Howard McNutt[7:32:25 PM]: Including Saturday for 4 hours Howard McNutt[7:32:33 PM]: Yes we do Howard McNutt[7:32:45 PM]: any question or suggestions? Joy Hooker[7:32:54 PM]: Will it just be a select few that have to come on Saturdays? Howard McNutt[7:33:09 PM]: Those that are required will have to go Howard McNutt[7:33:31 PM]: but, all parents have been told that their children may still go even if they are doing well Joy Hooker[7:33:39 PM]: So are you saying that it will be those that need extra help? Howard McNutt[7:33:45 PM]: yes Howard McNutt[7:34:03 PM]: The handouts however can be used during TAKS math or tutorials Joy Hooker[7:34:46 PM]: Ok sound like a good plan it ought to help bring up those scores. Is there anything I can do to help?
