Howard McNutt[5:22:42 PM]: i have too many windows open.....one moment please

Joy Hooker[5:24:16 PM]: Ready

Howard McNutt[5:24:21 PM]: sure

Howard McNutt[5:24:25 PM]: let go

Joy Hooker[5:24:37 PM]: Ok lets start with yoku goals

Joy Hooker[5:24:52 PM]: for the lesson

Howard McNutt[5:25:26 PM]: After a school fieldtrip, 5th grade students will be able to use and present their findings of the types of birds, cats, primates, and other mammals that can be found at Gladys Porter Zoo to their teachers and classmates by producing a slide show using Real Slide Show 2.0.

Joy Hooker[5:25:56 PM]: What objectives do you plan on focusing on

Howard McNutt[5:26:24 PM]: 1. Identify the differences between birds, cats, primates and other mammals.

2. Work in groups to discuss and share ideas about classification of animals

3. Gain skill and confidence in using digital cameras.

4. Create a slideshow using Real Slideshow 2.0 about birds, cats, primates, and other mammals.

5. Take pictures using digital camera and information from zoo keepers.

6. Use appropriate software to create storyboard of project.

7. Add digital pictures, dialog, and transitions to timeline.

8. Save and generate slideshow.

Joy Hooker[5:26:38 PM]: Wow that was fast typing!

Howard McNutt[5:26:46 PM]: sorry copy and paste

Joy Hooker[5:26:54 PM]: Looks well planned

Howard McNutt[5:27:05 PM]: : )

Joy Hooker[5:27:30 PM]: What data will they be gathering about animals

Howard McNutt[5:28:01 PM]: 1. Students will review and identify the differences between birds, cats, primates and other mammals. (Comprehension)

2. Work in groups to discuss and share ideas about classification of animals and create storyboard of project.

Howard McNutt[5:28:11 PM]: application

Joy Hooker[5:28:51 PM]: How will they be documenting this..what application

Howard McNutt[5:29:27 PM]: Students will use directions found on the handout and rubric to take pictures of animals at zoo. (Application)

Howard McNutt[5:29:39 PM]: the will ahve it with them on the field trip

Howard McNutt[5:30:01 PM]: then the will be able to write the information and log the pictures onto the hadout to keep track

Joy Hooker[5:30:24 PM]: What plans do you have for those with learning disabilities

Howard McNutt[5:30:53 PM]: Currently we have no student with a disability that requires any type of modifications

Howard McNutt[5:30:54 PM]: but.

Howard McNutt[5:31:04 PM]: On the assignment i suggested the following

Howard McNutt[5:31:16 PM]: 1. Magnified screen (Over head projector)

2. Pointing chart depicting animal (birds, cats, primates, mammals) vocabulary for autistic children

3. Peer grouping Assistants

Howard McNutt[5:31:30 PM]: For those in the future that may need some

Joy Hooker[5:31:41 PM]: Good thinking

Howard McNutt[5:31:46 PM]: I know its hard to believe....

Howard McNutt[5:31:50 PM]: small district

Joy Hooker[5:32:35 PM]: Do you have a plan to handle behavior and keep students on track

Howard McNutt[5:33:17 PM]: Actually no.....

Howard McNutt[5:33:19 PM]: but.

Howard McNutt[5:34:10 PM]: as we well know when we are working in the compute lab and we want their attention we just have them turn off the monitors. Then when we want them to work on assignments we let them turn it on and dim the lights and they become computer zombies

Joy Hooker[5:34:24 PM]: I would also like to suggest that you demonstrate to them how to conduct research about their information

Howard McNutt[5:34:45 PM]: Thats a good idea....

Howard McNutt[5:34:53 PM]: I hadn't considered that yet

Joy Hooker[5:35:08 PM]: Will you have some planned sites for them ready

Howard McNutt[5:35:16 PM]: This could be an alternative in case there is no film available for them

Howard McNutt[5:35:40 PM]: No they were to watch a film from the library that covers animal species

Joy Hooker[5:35:47 PM]: thats right with technology its always best to have plan B

Howard McNutt[5:35:59 PM]: from their in class discuss differencess

Howard McNutt[5:36:11 PM]: Yours is a great idea for plan B....

Howard McNutt[5:36:35 PM]: Find links with information related to the activity ready for the teachers to use.

Joy Hooker[5:36:36 PM]: How will you assess their knowlege

Howard McNutt[5:36:45 PM]: of course pre-screened

Howard McNutt[5:36:55 PM]: I wil be using  a rubric

Joy Hooker[5:37:09 PM]: What will it contain

Howard McNutt[5:37:22 PM]: That will assess their cooperative efforts, content, effects and transitions..

Howard McNutt[5:37:26 PM]: one moment please

Joy Hooker[5:37:55 PM]: Will that cover all your objectives

Howard McNutt[5:38:56 PM]: in the rubric it also has digital camera use, concept, storyboard, script, sound setup, content accuracy, effectiveness, teamwork and if all requirements were met.

Howard McNutt[5:39:05 PM]: So yes it would

Joy Hooker[5:39:14 PM]: what would yu like me to do to help

Howard McNutt[5:39:32 PM]: I felt my assiingment was complete...

Howard McNutt[5:39:45 PM]: but you gave me a plan b for resource

Howard McNutt[5:39:57 PM]: do you have any other ideas i should incorporate?

Joy Hooker[5:40:07 PM]: Will you need someone to assist in lab

Joy Hooker[5:40:39 PM]: I was thinking that is a lot of information for one person to gather for each student

Howard McNutt[5:40:46 PM]: I will be available to help teacher on most days now...since i will be teaching in the computer lab....

Joy Hooker[5:41:06 PM]: Will you help assess

Howard McNutt[5:41:08 PM]: If it were for plan b...i totally agree..i would have to extend the lesson for that

Howard McNutt[5:41:27 PM]: If the instructor needs help i would me more than willing to assist

Howard McNutt[5:42:02 PM]: Allow for enough time for students to find revelant information

Howard McNutt[5:42:08 PM]: if no film is available

Joy Hooker[5:42:55 PM]: I have found it so helpful myself when in the lab assessing students it would be nice if someone else took the checklist and helped out.

Joy Hooker[5:43:37 PM]: I would give the final grade but they helped gather the information I needed

Howard McNutt[5:43:58 PM]: I have also though that sometimes they should be graded by their peers using the rubric

Howard McNutt[5:44:12 PM]: as an alterntive to my grades.

Howard McNutt[5:44:29 PM]: give students an oppotunity to evaluate peer work

Joy Hooker[5:44:35 PM]: Yes that gives them a chance to look at it in a different way good idea

Howard McNutt[5:44:37 PM]: can help them understand a bit more

Joy Hooker[5:45:04 PM]: It sounds like a well thought out plan

Howard McNutt[5:45:09 PM]: Thanks for all the help and suggestions

Joy Hooker[5:45:15 PM]: The End!

Howard McNutt[5:45:19 PM]: cool

Howard McNutt[5:45:22 PM]: thanks alot

Howard McNutt[5:45:31 PM]: I believe i am now done for the course

Joy Hooker[5:45:47 PM]: Dont forget to Capture the lesson and delet the bad words!

Howard McNutt[5:45:56 PM]: feel free to ask for hlep in the next course

Howard McNutt[5:45:58 PM]: yeah

Joy Hooker[5:46:07 PM]: Thanks I will!

Joy Hooker[5:46:12 PM]: Bye

Howard McNutt[5:46:14 PM]: bye and thanks
