Prepare a concensogram to assess teachers' and how prepared they feel to teach students to write with ideas, organization, voice, word choice, and sentence fluency, conventions.

Introduction (Prepare and use a PowerPoint through out workshop)

  • Have students put a dot on each area for their level

  • Share the history of the 6 traits
  • Ask teachers to do an affinity chart (write their expectations and record on chart paper to display)

Aspect 2: The social system
Describe the interpersonal structure of the instructional experience.

This 6 Traits of Writing Staff Development is a district initiative with all elementary teachers participating. The staff development will be lead by four elementary classroom teachers who have been using 6 Traits with their students. It will be conducted over a two day period. Each teacher will present a portion of the workshop. We are planning one teachers section.

Aspect 3: The role of the instructor
Describe your general instructional role. For example, will you present material, guide students as they research their own issues, etc?

The role of the instructor will be to demonstrate the use of 6 Traits of Writing, lead teachers in activities they can use in their classrooms, and facilitate discussions.

Aspect 4: The support system
Describe the types and amount of instructional, technical, and other resource support required for the instruction (e.g., instructional materials, communication capabilities).
