Disability or Impairment
  • 1-ADD
  • 1-AHDH
  • 1-Hearing Impaired

   -

Care will have to be taken to address the problems of the learning disabled students. AT may be necessary for the student with the hearing impairment.

Developmentally Appropriate Students are ready to graduate high school and move into the real world   - Sometimes "senioritis" sets in early and we must keep the students on task since this course is necessary to graduate.
Prerequisite Knowledge
  • Research skills

  • PowerPoint

  • Inspiration
+

-

Students will build on research skills learned in previous classes.

The students will build on the PowerPoint knowledge they have acquired in other classes.

Many students will be exposed to Inspiration for the first time.

Related Experience Students have done research in other classes. They have also prepared class presentations in other classes. +   Transfer knowledge from similar lessons in other classes.
Perception of Role as Student The real world work atmosphere should appeal to these mature learners. +   Students should work well together to create a product for presentation.
Motivation for Learning Students know that this is a course required for graduation +   The students should enjoy the freedom to teach the class what they have learned.
Attitude Toward Subject Students do not understand the purpose of studying economics for future needs.   - They will complete assignments simply to pass the class.
Expectations from Session

Students will learn the basic foundations of subject material

+   The student will be able to explain the importance of this subject material and cite examples of their expectations.
Competitiveness Student will want their presentation to be correct and acceptable to others in the class. +   Students will get to see all the other presentations.

Environment factors that may impact learner-centered instruction.

Analyzing the environment is a means to identify the issues that will impact the (a) process of the design and production, (b) implementation, and (c) outcomes of the learning experience

Content factors that may impact learner-centered instruction.

Analyzing the content is a means to identify in general terms the topics to be addressed in your course and to analyze these topics in terms of the prequisite sub-topics, and degree of learning difficulty

Main Topics Sub-Topics (What Is Involved In Learning Each Main Topic?) Readiness To Learn (Prerequisites Mastered) Degree of Learning Difficulty (Real / Imagined) Possible Instructional Strategies to Reduce or Manage Learning Difficulty

Activities for Students:

1. Research businesses from the colonial era and from modern times

Effective search techniques

Proper copyright useage

Students have extensive previous experience with Internet research Real- should be easy

Imagined-students are sometimes frustrated when their searches do not produce exactly what they are looking for

Guide students in refining their searches to achieve needed results
2. Prepare a PowerPoint presentation comparing businesses from the colonial era and businesses today. Creating a presentation in MS PowerPoint

Working with others to complete an assignment

Familiarity with PowerPoint

Students usually enjoy working in groups

Real- Not familiar with PowerPoint

Imagined-students sometimes "overdo" with PowerPoint

Assist the students if needed and allow them to mentor each other
3. Create a graphic organizer recording details of how entrepreneurs bring together the factors of production Pull all the lesson components together to demonstrate mastery of curriculum material Students will appreciate this different way of assessment Some students will have a hard time putting the ideas they have learned into a graphic organizer Specific teacher instructions will help eliminate student frustration
