Sandra Hines: Hi Jayne
Jodie Ingram: hi
Sandra Hines: welcome jodie
Jayne Germany: ARe you ready, Jodie?
Jodie Ingram: I guess. Remind me do I need any paper work today
Jayne Germany: Don't know if you all remember the list of questions from 1001, week 6...
Jayne Germany: Try interactive Guide 1
Sandra Hines: i don't
Jodie Ingram: thanks jayne, you always know exactly where tofind the info
Sandra Hines: my lesson hasn't been taught yet. I can talk about my goals
Jayne Germany: I looked last nite!!
Jayne Germany: Jodie, you have done your lesson...wanna start?
Sandra Hines: I don't understand why we sign the lesson plan, but that is not what we talk about.
Jodie Ingram: I am ready
Jayne Germany: I guess it is supposed to work better during the school year, but we took it in summer...maybe the 1st summer class
Jayne Germany: Jodie, I will ask you some questions since I observed you..ok?
Jodie Ingram: great
Jayne Germany: How did you feel about your lesson?
Sandra Hines: your lesson was on Desktop publishing.. right?
Jodie Ingram: I feel that my teachers really understood how publisher could be used in their classroom
Jodie Ingram: right
Jayne Germany: What did you observe to make you think your teachers reached that goal?
Jodie Ingram: Many teachers were able to apply the general templates to lessons they had already taught.
Jayne Germany: You found this out during your closing discussion, or throughout the 2 hours?
Jodie Ingram: I saw glimpse during the whole time, but it really came together during the closing. They were excited about their ideas.
Jayne Germany: I could tell.
Jayne Germany: They were being supportive of you, shich implies they felt sucessful themselves.
Jayne Germany: Is there anything you would change next time?
Jodie Ingram: They were so funny. They knew I was being taped and they were trying to impress yall
Jayne Germany: Yeah, I could tell! :-)
Jodie Ingram: No I feel this lesson went very smoothly. I am already getting lesson plans submissions. They can't wait to use it with the kids
Jayne Germany: I like how you can offer credit for a lesson.
Jodie Ingram: thats new this year. It was one of my pet ideas. It has worked wonderfully
Jayne Germany: Is there anything I could have done to help you?
Sandra Hines: what kind of credit do they get?
Jodie Ingram: No jayne thanks for the support
Jayne Germany: You msut be doing something right if you are REgion 8's Teacher of the year!
Jodie Ingram: They can turn in a lesson plan for an additional hour of CPE credit to apply to the comp day 12 hours of credit = 1 comp day
Jayne Germany: We can't do comp days in our district.
Sandra Hines: great idea! and congratulations on Teacher of the year
Sandra Hines: we do comp days for training
Jodie Ingram: The comp day is the technology inservice day
Sandra Hines: want me to do you Jayne
Jayne Germany: Great way to motivate!
Sandra Hines: it does get teachers to training
Sandra Hines: district selects what qualifies
Jayne Germany: Sandra and Jodie, do you want to say anything else about Jodie's lesson?
Jodie Ingram: some... many think that the math doesn't add up. 12 hours for a 6 hour day.
Sandra Hines: i see their point!
Jodie Ingram: lets do Jayne\
Sandra Hines: one more questions...
Sandra Hines: how did you evaluate? mostly observation?
Jayne Germany: Good question!
Jodie Ingram: observation during the 2 hours and written eval of the lesson plan later
Sandra Hines: so teachers did an evaluation of the workshop at the end?
Jodie Ingram: yeah a brief excellent, good, bad survey with a spot for comments
Sandra Hines: did it go well? good evaluations?
Jodie Ingram: yeah that group loves me. I always get good response from them
Sandra Hines: makes your day?
Jodie Ingram: always nice to get a compliment
Sandra Hines: Jayne. you ready?
Jayne Germany: yep
Sandra Hines: okay here goes
Sandra Hines: have you taught yours yet?
Jayne Germany: No--I don't go into schools until next week
Sandra Hines: okay. so we talk about the coaching part?
Jayne Germany: I suppose. I guess I am just looking forward to changing the mind set of this group I am working with.
Jodie Ingram: what is the current mind set
Sandra Hines: have you worked with the teacher trainers yet?
Jayne Germany: Jodie--The study groups are mandatory, and we have many reluctant, passive learners.
Jayne Germany: Sandra--I am hoping to change some attitudes among teacher trainers as well.
Sandra Hines: but have you worked with them yet?
Jayne Germany: The teacher trainers are in my office right now--about 24 to serv 66 campuses.
Jayne Germany: Campus personnel will not be doing this training.
Jayne Germany: Is that what you are asking?
Sandra Hines: I'm trying to decide what questions to ask you.. should I ask about the coaching and the video I watched or the lesson you are working on.
Jayne Germany: No, I have not shared our lessons with them. I think LeeChel and I want to try them.
Sandra Hines: okay, so I ask about coaching with LeeChell?
Jayne Germany: I guess so
Sandra Hines: okay,
Jodie Ingram: i agree
Sandra Hines: I noticed that you were well planned and ready to start the meeting, you stated your goals for the meeting and stayed on task.
Sandra Hines: you wanted me to observe for clarifying questions
Jayne Germany: Yes--we do share a common vision
Sandra Hines: I think about a fourth of your questions were clarifying questions.
Sandra Hines: how do you feel about the success of your session?
Jayne Germany: What were the other 3/4?
Jayne Germany: I feel we were successful. The only thing I would have done differently is to sit down and design lesson sooner...
Jayne Germany: We are now 2 years into the study groups, and I think about all the people we didn't reach.
Sandra Hines: I'm looking for your email you sent me as to what you asked me to look for
Jayne Germany: I asked you to look for the number of clarifying questions, but you stated LeeChel often needed no clrification.
Sandra Hines: okay, that is what I thought
Sandra Hines: some of the questions were more factual, than clarifying, but then that is a clarification as well.
Jayne Germany: I see what you mean.
Sandra Hines: I thought you used your time wisely
Sandra Hines: what do you think made this session successful?
Jayne Germany: I have less memory of this session than my first one because we work so smoothly.
Jayne Germany: I guess that's what makes us successful.
Sandra Hines: I understand. even I should have watched the video again today
Sandra Hines: I agree.
Jayne Germany: We talk about a lot of ideas, but often have to force ourselves to give action to our thoughts. I guess that's what I will continue to work on....
Jayne Germany: making the abstact concrete.
Sandra Hines: you said you would have designed the lesson sooner if you were going to change it. Why would that help you?
Jayne Germany: It would have helped the program to fix the problems sooner is what I meant. I ould not change the actual lesson.
Jayne Germany: I don't think I was equipped with the skill set to think the problem through...
Sandra Hines: How have you planned for the opportunity for constructivist experiences in the study groups?
Jayne Germany: and brainstorm solutions. That's how this class has helped.
Sandra Hines: ah
Jayne Germany: I start by modeling it, then later actually introduce the concepts...
Jodie Ingram: I agree. so many better plans now than last year
Jayne Germany: showing constructivist videos taped in the district
Jayne Germany: and having them analyze them for constructivist aspects.
Sandra Hines: do you think the modeling of constructivist teaching will get the teachers more involved and interested in the study groups?
Jayne Germany: That is my hope!
Sandra Hines: Is there anything we can help you think through or clarify?
Jayne Germany: Not at this time...we have a roundtable discussion in the planning phase for TCEA...maybe we can take up this discussion again in Feb!
Jodie Ingram: cool
Sandra Hines: that would e great. I plan to be there
Jodie Ingram: i am too
Jayne Germany: great!
Jayne Germany: Sandra, are we ready to move onto you?
Sandra Hines: we need to share regular email address
Jayne Germany: good idea
Sandra Hines: okay, mine has not been taught yet by the teacher
Jodie Ingram: okay so we will focus on your mentoring time
Sandra Hines: okay
Jodie Ingram: How do you feel about your session with your teacher?
Sandra Hines: we are planning a staff development for teachers of 2-5 on 6 traits of writing
Sandra Hines: i feel good about it. it was different because I was not familiar with the content.. I did know 6 traits
Sandra Hines: did not
Jodie Ingram: I am impressed with how together yall were able to catch all the holes in the plan quickly
Sandra Hines: the presenter is nervous about working with adults, but got really excitied during the planning and all she wanted to do
Jodie Ingram: she seems to really believe in the 6 traits
Jayne Germany: I think we have all had to conquor the fear of teaching adults at one time or another.
Sandra Hines: I think this one really proved to me that you can concentrate on the content by listening to the teacher expert and then coach them into the technology
Jayne Germany: Good way of putting your strategy.
Sandra Hines: I really had to listen and improve those skills and use restating to make sure I understood
Jodie Ingram: I agree. It is sometimes wonderful to know nothing about content
Jodie Ingram: I notice that you did spend a good deal of time in restatements this time.
Sandra Hines: We are working on a video of her teaching her class so we can use it in the staff development
Sandra Hines: I had to restate.. I wanted to make sure I understood what she wanted and needed.
Jodie Ingram: thats what a good mentor does
Sandra Hines: I tried
Jodie Ingram: What would you do differently next time
Sandra Hines: With the previous lesson, I knew the content very well and it was easy to come up with lesson ideas
Sandra Hines: differently? hm
Sandra Hines: I wish I could have worked with all the teachers because there are 4 of them and I'm only working with one
Jodie Ingram: will they each do their own thing or is she sharing with them
Sandra Hines: they will work together during the two days, so we are working only on her portion of the 2 days.
Jodie Ingram: wow I agree that it would be more powerful if all were involved
Jodie Ingram: What evidence do you have that your session was successful
Sandra Hines: she is going to work them to add some of it to theirs and we planned the opening parts... but they were too busy to work with me... smile
Sandra Hines: she was enthusiastic and as we went, she began to see how technology could be used, when at first she couldn't imagine adding technology to the lesson
Jodie Ingram: great job. I love to hear that from a teacher
Sandra Hines: I hope to be there during the workshop and see how it goes and support her
Jodie Ingram: what could I have done to help your
Jodie Ingram: you
Sandra Hines: I would really liked to have had input on the final draft of the lesson plan, but I totally understand how we are really too busy right now to do anything more and especially you with the things going on in your life, Jodie
Jayne Germany: I read your Lesson Plan today, and it looks very thorough and professional.
Sandra Hines: I appreciate both of you encouraging me and helping me think through things. thank you
Jodie Ingram: Thanks, I will try to look at it tonight after Mason goes to bed
Jodie Ingram: Jayne do you have any questions for Sandra
Sandra Hines: thank you Jayne, any suggestions or problems that you noticed?
Jayne Germany: It nice knowing that we are all in this together, struggling at times.
Jayne Germany: No, no problems at all. It seems to stand alone. I didn't realize it was part of a bigger picture.
Sandra Hines: yes, I will miss the interaction, but am so looking forward to having a little time and being able to think about my new job. the board votes to make it official tonight
Jayne Germany: Yea! good luck!
Jodie Ingram: that's great.
Sandra Hines: it could stand alone, but it is concentrating on word choice
Sandra Hines: thank you both
Jodie Ingram: ditto
Jayne Germany: Just a few more days...then we have to worry about the test!
Sandra Hines: I'll worry about the test later... I need a break
Jayne Germany: I'm ready to go home--how bout yall?
Sandra Hines: yes!
