1. Identify and organize elements of short story

Presentation, Pen and paper tasks, oral reading, silent reading, discussion, questioning, reflecting, demonstration

Teacher will discuss elements of literature after students have defined them.  Students will read several stories both orally and silently, and teacher will model analysis of a short story for elements through a large group discussion.  Students will then practice analyzing a short story by completing a literary web in Inspiration.  Reflection activities will be interjected throughout the activities.

2. Use the elements of short story in a creative way

After introducing Locker Laws (school rules governing locker use), the teacher will assign students the task of writing a short story incorporating the literary elements about someone who breaks the Locker Laws.  She will then have them analyze their own stories in Inspiration.

Note taking, composing in Word, peer revising and editing, correcting in Word, oral reading, literary web in Inspiration, Journaling

3. View the literary elements as a visual construct for every genre they read

Aspect 2: The social system

Describe the interpersonal structure of the instructional experience.

Students will be taking part in whole class and partner discussions, reflections, and conferencing with teacher as well as working individually during the writing process.

Aspect 3: The role of the instructor

Describe your general instructional role. For example, will you present material, guide students as they research their own issues, etc?
