Sandra Hines: who wants to go first
Jodie Ingram: I can

Jayne Germany: do we want to focus on our goals or our mentees goals?

Sandra Hines: our goals I think

Jayne Germany: okay

Sandra Hines: i haven't meet with my mentee

Jodie Ingram: I haven't got my mentees goals yet

Jayne Germany: shoot jodie

Jodie Ingram: Develop effective instructional strategies for adult learning

Sandra Hines: so you will develop the strategies that your mentee will use?

Jodie Ingram: no as a professional goal for me

Jayne Germany: are you 2 planning an adult learning experience together?

Jodie Ingram: yes

Sandra Hines: so as you work with the mentee, you will be developing strategies for you to use?

Jayne Germany: How will you know the strategies are effective?

Jodie Ingram: I guess I want to have something to take to her when I meet with her. to have more background knowledge

Sandra Hines: so will you do research to look into stategies

Jodie Ingram: yes

Jayne Germany: sounds good

Sandra Hines: where do you plan on looking for ideas

Jodie Ingram: online through google I guess

Sandra Hines: what will you use as search words.

Jodie Ingram: "adult learning" strategies

Jayne Germany: who is the person you are working with? What is your target audience?

Sandra Hines: sounds logical

Sandra Hines: back to jayne's question. how will you decide if they are effective

Jodie Ingram: my mentee is a high school computer teacher that helps me train teachers to integrate technology. Well that is the plan. Right now she just teaches software

Jayne Germany: thanks for the background.

Sandra Hines: and you want her to help you more with staff development?

Jayne Germany: Will you teach the "lesson" together, or just her?

Jodie Ingram: just her

Jodie Ingram: yes more help

Jodie Ingram: on the effective : if it leading to increase student use of technology enhanced lessons

Sandra Hines: will you really be developing strategies, or researching and practicing them?

Jodie Ingram: I guess research and practice. Why reinvent the wheel

Jayne Germany: So you want to broaden your knowledge base so you have somehting to bring her for her prep?

Sandra Hines: good way to judge.. but how will you assess if they are using it more

Jodie Ingram: teacher submitted lesson plans

Sandra Hines: that could work

Jodie Ingram: Thanks for the help. yall are getting really good at this

Sandra Hines: so are you sticking with your goal? or revising it any?

Jodie Ingram: rewording it. It will take me a minute to gather my thoughts

Jayne Germany: take your time

Sandra Hines: yes

Jodie Ingram: research and use effective instructional strategies for adult learners assessed by the submission of teacher created lesson plans

Sandra Hines: wow.. great

Sandra Hines: i like it

Jayne Germany: sounds great

Sandra Hines: jodie,

Jayne Germany: Who's next?

Sandra Hines: you ready

Jayne Germany: yep

Sandra Hines: go for it

Jayne Germany: My goals sound very similar to the last ones becuase I want to continue practicing on a new population....

Sandra Hines: I struggled with that too

Jayne Germany: I am working with a colleague to revamp our teacher study groups

Jayne Germany: that have been technical training so far, and we want them to be more about teaching strategies and content

Sandra Hines: connie would be proud

Jayne Germany: hee hee, thanks..here comes the goal--sounds like jodie's

Jayne Germany: collaborate to create effective andragogical strategies designed to model student-centered leaning with teachers.

Jodie Ingram: wow

Jayne Germany: andragogical is adult learning--like pedagogical

Sandra Hines: big word there

Jayne Germany: I might just change it to adult learning...

Jodie Ingram: new word.

Sandra Hines: like I asked Jodie, will you create the strategies?

Jayne Germany: yes, we will brainstorm together--we both have some ideas

Sandra Hines: how will you test them and decide if they are effective

Jayne Germany: We are testing them right now in tech integration academies--what works, what doesn't--so far a lot of it's working, just some more successful than others...

Jodie Ingram: will your teachers be student centered learners

Jayne Germany: Changing the time frame from 4 days into 45 minutes is the cahllenge

Sandra Hines: how are you determining the effectivness?

Jayne Germany: what activities can be isolated

Jayne Germany: JodieYES! We are focusing on modeling student centered learning

Jayne Germany: Sandra, Teacher observation, teacher inerviews, reflection activities in study groups

Jodie Ingram: perfect

Sandra Hines: sounds like a good plan with a good goal

Sandra Hines: Is there anything else we need to know or can help you with

Jayne Germany: We feel the challenge will be the follow up--teachers have to be there for the study groups buth they don't have to follow up

Jayne Germany: No, I don't thinks o..

Sandra Hines: why not the follow up requirment

Jayne Germany: If they receive a laptop, they have to attend 6 hours of study groups in a year--lotsa reluctant, passive learners

Jodie Ingram: my teachers would do flips for laptops

Jayne Germany: Yeah, you'd think...Ideally, we want them to feel they get so much out of it that they want to come back

Sandra Hines: i see.. so you are sure they can use them.. but don't want overload on reflection?

Jayne Germany: Actually, most attendees do get a lot out of them, but it's tech knowledge

Jayne Germany: no..not too much reflection

Jodie Ingram: i like the idea of moving to content

Jayne Germany: my big focus for next year

Jodie Ingram: and integration strategies

Sandra Hines: good focus

Jayne Germany: Okay, Sandra, you ready?

Sandra Hines: yup

Jodie Ingram: go for it

Sandra Hines: Improve questioning strategies to facilitate the development of staff development opportunities that appropriately incorporate the use of technology.

Sandra Hines: I am planning to work with our staff development and curriculum people to integrate technoloyg

Jayne Germany: What skills will you focus on improving?

Sandra Hines: questioning

Jayne Germany: Sounds like a great project!

Jayne Germany: What specifics about questioning? wait time? clarifying?

Sandra Hines: I hope so... focus on the content that they want to get across and enhance it with technology

Sandra Hines: yes...smile

Sandra Hines: I want to be better at reading them and asking the right questions

Jayne Germany: technology as a tool to enhace curriculum--i like it

Jayne Germany: good skill to improve!

Sandra Hines: using the coaching/questioning ideas from cognitive coaching

Jayne Germany: That would work for an objective under the goal.

Sandra Hines: what would work?

Jayne Germany: being better at reading audience

Sandra Hines: ah yes

Jodie Ingram: what kind of opportunities are you trying to develop

Sandra Hines: staff development has the things they think teachers need... I want to help them enhance the delivery and learning experiences of the teachers.

Jodie Ingram: so you are looking at enhance other staff developments besides your own

Sandra Hines: we are revamping the curriculum and the assessment instruments and every teacher is going to go to district training. I'll work with that team

Sandra Hines: yes. others, not mine.. but what I learn will impact my staff development as well

Jayne Germany: A chance to reach every teacher! Wow! It sounds like you have thought that goal out. Do you have any concerns abut this or other goals?

Sandra Hines: Improve coaching/mentioning skills to encourage the planning of staff development that considers the needs of a diverse group of adult learners and their various levels of knowledge and skills.

Plan and implement an evaluation

Jayne Germany: Wow! You packed a lot in there, and quite succinctly.

Sandra Hines: Plan and implement an evaluation instrument to measure the effectiveness of the staff development.

that is all.. smile

Jodie Ingram: great goal. I want a copy of that instrument

Jayne Germany: What kind of instrument? Participant evaluation?

Sandra Hines: chuckle... hope I can do it...

Jayne Germany: sounds like a BIG task

Sandra Hines: Haven't decided... hope it will be digital though

Jodie Ingram: What skills are you looking to improve speficallly

Sandra Hines: big? that is why I may leave it off.. smle

Jayne Germany: Ooh--an online survey would be quite effective!

Sandra Hines: for me.. skills.. coaching skills

Jayne Germany: Ever used survey monkey? There are lots of free survey sites.

Sandra Hines: for the evaluation... skills in evaluating effectivly

Jodie Ingram: I haven't

Sandra Hines: I have participated in surveys with survey monkey

Jayne Germany: Just a thought--something more permanent might be needed

Sandra Hines: more permanent that survey monkey

Jayne Germany: yes

Sandra Hines: it is easy to do a form on the internet that sends to email and easily goes into a spead sheet

Jayne Germany: yep

Jodie Ingram: I need to check it out

Sandra Hines: we can also do surveys through first class..our data base manager can do wonders

Sandra Hines: so do my goals float?

Jayne Germany: we need a service like fc

Jodie Ingram: I really like your goals

Jayne Germany: Yes--I think they're well thought our

Jayne Germany: out

Sandra Hines: i love first class.. we do web pages through it.. share files.. much more

Jodie Ingram: this is my only experience with fc. I like it much better than webct

Jayne Germany: never used that

Jayne Germany: Jodie, do you have any more goals you would like to discuss?

Sandra Hines: it is a great email system with so much more from 3rd party added to it

Jodie Ingram: yes one more goal

Jayne Germany: oky

Sandra Hines: shoot

Jodie Ingram: assist mentee in developing a lesson to teach teachers strategies that use technology to achieve student centered learning

Jayne Germany: is he/she going to model student-centered learning?

Sandra Hines: do you just want to help her develop one lesson

Jodie Ingram: Jayne yes

Jodie Ingram: sandra I guess I really want to make her independent so that will need to change

Sandra Hines: I thought you probably wanted more..

Sandra Hines: how will you know when you have acheived your goal

Jodie Ingram: when she can create the sessions independently

Jayne Germany: i like it

Sandra Hines: what strategies will your teacher teach

Jodie Ingram: the strategies I come up with in goal 1

Jayne Germany: .

Sandra Hines: chuckle

Jayne Germany: Will she decide which strategies she wants to use? After you have given her some choices?

Jodie Ingram: at first we will collaborate then she will take over

Sandra Hines: sounds like a good plan

Sandra Hines: how do you feel about your goal

Jodie Ingram: REWORD: assist mentee in creating sessions to teach teachers strategies to enhance student centered learning with technology

Sandra Hines: i like it

Jayne Germany: me too

Jodie Ingram: jayne do you have another

Jayne Germany: NO--they are very similar to 1002

Jayne Germany: I mean 1001

Jodie Ingram: sandra do you have another

Sandra Hines: no.. I just had the three

Sandra Hines: do you have another

Jodie Ingram: I am through too

Jayne Germany: On another topic...

Sandra Hines: great.. it is nice to work with you two

Sandra Hines: yes

Jayne Germany: Next week we have to each take questions and reword them--I have to get it done because I have to go visit mom on the 2nd.

Sandra Hines: wow.. how do you have time to look ahead?

Jayne Germany: There are 10--do you want to go look or divide them randomly?

Jayne Germany: I have to to survive...

Jodie Ingram: divide random

Jayne Germany: Me 1-4?

Jodie Ingram: me 5-7

Sandra Hines: okay... me 8-10

Jayne Germany: Okay--great!

Jodie Ingram: anything else??

Sandra Hines: way to go on getting that covered.. thanks

Jayne Germany: I will email you my responses before I go Awol

Sandra Hines: nothing for me

Jayne Germany: See ya later!

Jodie Ingram: bye

Sandra Hines: good night ladies
