Student Activities
|
| 1. The student knows that traits of species can change through generations and that the instructions for traits are contained in the genetic material of the organisms. |
Presentation, discussion, reflection |
Instructor will present directions for activity. Discussion over terminology and expectations will take place. Students will reflect understanding through demonstration of genetic knowledge. |
Students will be presented directions from the teacher regarding what to do. Students will be directed to obtain two coins, one marked male, the other marked female. Each coin will have a "dominant" (heads) side and a "recessive" (tails) side. Upon the flip of the coin characteristics for a "smiley face" graphic will be decided and recorded. |
| 2. Solving problems. The student uses appropriate computer-based productivity tools to create and modify solutions to problems. |
Presentation, discussion, demonstration |
Instructor will present directions for activity. Discussion over terminology and expectations will take place. Students will reflect through demonstration of problem solving using computer-based productivity tools. |
Students will be presented directions from the teacher regarding what to do and how to do it. Students will be directed to open a "Word" document and how to get to the "Draw" toolbar. Depending on the genetic characateristics decided by the flip of the coin, students will draw a "smiley face," giving it a name, using the productivity tools in Microsoft Word to create a unique character. |
|
Aspect 2: The Social System
|
| The students will take place in an individual lesson requiring no right or wrong answer, but rather more a discovery type of learning. Students will discover that genetic traits are contained in the genetic material of the organism. |
|
Aspect 3: The Role of the Instructorr
|
| The role of the instructor is to lead the discussions and to facilitate the individuals toward the lessons' goals. |
|
Aspect 4: The Support System
|
| Instructional Materials: Handouts (examples, directions, tally sheets)
Hardware: 30 Computers, One Printer, All networked to each other and to the Internet.
Software: Microsoft Word
Support personnel: Site Technologist
