Aspect 1: The Syntax
|
|
Learning Goals
(the learner will be able to)
|
Instructional Strategies
|
Instructor Actions
|
Student Activities
|
| Design a web page to
be used for student research. |
Demonstration |
Demonstration steps include:
- Open Netscape Composer
- Save the file
- Select a color scheme
- Enter text
- Create a hyperlink
- Insert graphic
- Preview page
Materials include diskette with folder structure and graphics,
instructional handouts.
|
Learner will practice the demonstration
steps with the instructor. |
| Active Learning |
Provide printable online instructional handouts for folder
creation and saving clip-art from the Internet. Provide email
and face to face support.
|
Use the instructional handouts to create a folder structure
to contain the research web page.
Save appropriate clip-art from the Internet.
Use Netscape Composer to create a web page that will be used
to guide student research.
|
Personal Goals:
(I will be able to)
Faciliate the use of integrated technologies in the foundation
curricular area of 2nd grade. |
Discussion |
Display a sample web page that may be used to guide student
research.
Maintain a dialogue with the 2nd grade teacher to determine
main units of instruction which may be suitable for integration
of Internet research.
Use mentoring/coaching skills to facilitate the development
of appropriate research questions.
Guiding questions:
What are your instructional objectives for the lesson?
How will you determine if students have mastered the objectives?
Use mentoring/coaching skills to facilitate development of
guidelines for student collaboration and classroom management.
Guiding questions:
What are the benefits of student collaboration?
What will it look like when students are engage in active
learning?
|
Brainstorm about the benefits of using such a web page.
Outline major units of study and discuss which unit would
be suitable for integration of Internet research.
Reflect on the unit development and student goals.
|
| Providing Feedback |
Facilitate development of web page
by maintaing supportive dialog and constructive feedback. |
|
| Develop instruction
that faciliates adult learning. |
Observation |
Observe the 2nd grade teacher from a distance as she interacts
with her students in the computer lab.
Analyze the complexity of the technical support requests
initiated by the teacher.
|
|
|
Questioning
Inquiry
|
Probing Questions:
How do you use technology on a daily basis?
How do your students use technology on a daily basis?
What additional applications are you interested in learning?
|
Learner participates by reflecting
on questions. |
|
Problem Solving
Independent Production
|
Develop instructional handouts consistent with learner competencies.
Develop an instrument to assess teacher production.
|
|
| Use coaching/mentoring skills to
facilitate educator use of technology. |
Facilitative Questioning
Humor
|
Questions:
In a perfect world, how do you see technology being used in
the classroom?
How would your students react in that scenario?
How would you feel about your students reaction?
|
Learner participates by reflecting
on questions. |
| Aspect
2: The social system
Describe the interpersonal structure of the instructional
experience.
|
The first component
of the lesson will be one-on-one. It is imperative that the
learner be comfortable both with the technology and with me
as a mentor as the practice web page is created. The second
portion of the lesson will be completed independently. |
| Aspect
3: The role of the instructor
Describe your general instructional role. For example, will
you present material, guide students as they research their
own issues, etc?
|
During the first portion
of the lesson my role will be to present material including
a sample web page and demonstrating the creation of a web page.
Additionally, I will use questioning techniques to guide the
learner in the creation of an Internet based research unit. |
| Aspect
4: The support system
Describe the types and amount of instructional, technical,
and other resource support required for the instruction (e.g.,
instructional materials, communication capabilities).
|
For support, I will
need a working computer with Netscape Communicator, Internet
access and a projection device in addition to step-by-step instructions
for web page creation. Ongoing communication and support will
be via email. |
