Learner factors that may impact learner-centered instruction.

Analyzing the student learners is a means to identify the learner characteristics that will likely impact the process and outcomes of the learning experience.

Factors
Description
Advantage or Constraint
Initial Ideas for Maximizing Positive Factors or Minimizing Negative Factors
Age / Academic Range 12-14 - Plan for collaborative opportunities to allow group interaction.
Sex Distribution M/F
-
Brainstorm with teacher for research topics that appeal to both sexes.
Racial, Ethnic Diversity Caucasion,
Hispanic
-
Include diverse prompts in lesson description.

Environment factors that may impact learner-centered instruction.

Analyzing the environment is a means to identify the issues that will impact the (a) process of the design and production, (b) implementation, and (c) outcomes of the learning experience

Other Factors:

Content factors that may impact learner-centered instruction.

Analyzing the content is a means to identify in general terms the topics to be addressed in your course and to analyze these topics in terms of the prequisite sub-topics, and degree of learning difficulty

Main Topics Sub-Topics (What Is Involved In Learning Each Main Topic?) Readiness To Learn (Prerequisites Mastered) Degree of Learning Difficulty (Real / Imagined) Possible Instructional Strategies to Reduce or Manage Learning Difficulty
Research a topic in Texas History
  1. Determine appropriate keyword searches
  2. Create a Word document to save research notes
The learners have mastered the prerequisite of Internet research but has not copied & pasted to a Word document. The task will be relatively easy. Demonstration of copy and paste to Word document.
Create a PowerPoint presentation
  1. Plan a linear multimedia project.
  2. Use font, color, layout to create unity.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of copyright law.
The learners have mastered the prerequisite of word-processing. Some students may experience difficulty. Sample presentation, templates for student use.
Create a technology-rich lesson.
  1. Plan an instructional unit.
  2. Develop guidelines for student collaboration.
  3. Differentiate the needs of diverse learners.
Learner is familiar with the concepts to be addressed. I do not expect the learner to experience difficulty. Guiding questions.
