Data Gathering for Lesson:

During the lesson these were the things I was asked to look for:

-Positive climate for all students – a positive experience with technology and with the lesson

-Classroom managagement skills in the computer lab

Paula Brown: This is what I noticed. The teacher is 100% effective at making the students feel proud of their work. She always had a kind word and a supportive tone. The students respect her and it shows in her classroom management. If a student speaks out while others are working she responds with “Please raise your hand and I will call on you”. The atmosphere is quiet and conducive to work. The students felt good about the product they created. I saw this as the groups presented their infomercial and “showed off” their brochure. The students were also respectful of each other. I noticed this when some of the groups with diverse learners presented. Even though they were flustered or not sure what to say the audience remained quiet. The teacher was very clear with her instructions and expectations. This was evident – the students knew what to do and the timeframe they had to do it in. I felt that this was a successful technology-enhanced lesson.

Data gathering for conference with mentee:

Paula Brown: Could you look for how I could ask more clarifying questions???

Cathy Ritter: I think that you had a good line of thought provoking questioning questions and that the teacher that you are coaching seems to have thought out her lesson thoroughly. I’m glad that you and your mentee have thought about the real world application of this lesson and how it could help the students in other areas. Good job! The links worked great, no problem. Good video.

Catherine Ritter[10:50:16 PM]: Want me to start with what I observed?
Paula Brown[10:50:21 PM]: sure
Catherine Ritter[10:50:52 PM]: Paula, great job asking questions of your mentee. I could see that you had well thought out questions. Your coaching session went well, your mentee had obviously been thinking about the lesson and ways that she could involve the students.
Paula Brown[10:51:18 PM]: yes she is on the ball
Catherine Ritter[10:51:41 PM]: You asked me to look for ways that you could improve your questioning.
Paula Brown[10:51:47 PM]: yes
Catherine Ritter[10:51:56 PM]: The only suggestion that I had was to relax. : )
Catherine Ritter[10:52:51 PM]: You had obviously thought about possible questions and your mentee was very up on her lesson.
Paula Brown[10:53:04 PM]: Yes she was excited
Catherine Ritter[10:54:12 PM]: It is wonderful to see teachers enthusiastic about using technology to enhance their lessons.
Catherine Ritter[10:54:21 PM]: Once they have completed the lesson they are so excited about how enthusiastic the students were during the lesson.
Paula Brown[10:54:44 PM]: yes she was fun to work with and it went so smoothly that she wants to do something again
