My mentee is a brand new teacher. He came to our district 3 weeks after school started. He is teaching two geometry classes, two TAKS math remediation classes and visits the alternative campus for two periods. He is having to discover the who, what, when, where, and whys of our district while teaching for the first time.

In our discussions, he has expressed lots of concern about classroom management. He is learning the grading system and how to use our gradebook program. He is also expected to learn the functions of A+ (online curriculum) for use at the alternative campus and possibly in his classes.

For now, he is following the syllabus used by one of the other geometry teachers. He has chosen the lesson on triangles for this project. He wants the students to be able to identify triangles and to be able to explain why a triangle is categorized in a particular way. He also wants the students to be able to use the technology in his classroom and in the lab without the technology being a distraction. Again, I think he is worried about the classroom management part.
