Catherine Ritter[6:41:58 PM]: Hey, I'm here.
Paula Brown[6:42:02 PM]: Hello
Paula Brown[6:50:37 PM]: Ok - do you want me to start?
Catherine Ritter[6:50:51 PM]: Sure
Paula Brown[6:51:32 PM]: My mentee is a high school speech teacher.
She has been teaching for 16 years so this will be different than
my first time. My first mentor was brand new out of college.
Paula Brown[6:51:52 PM]: These are some of the questions I plan
to ask
Paula Brown[6:52:26 PM]: Is this a lesson that you have previously
taught?
Paula Brown[6:53:56 PM]: What prior knowledge will your students
need?
Paula Brown[6:54:26 PM]: Do you want your students to work collaboratively
in groups or individually?
Paula Brown[6:54:56 PM]: What type of technology integration would
you like to use for this lesson?
Paula Brown[6:55:28 PM]: What are your goals and objectives for
the students? for yourself?
Paula Brown[6:56:12 PM]: How will you assess this project?
Catherine Ritter[6:56:35 PM]: Maybe you should add the question
- In what ways could technology be used to enhance the lesson?
Paula Brown[6:56:54 PM]: Yes that sounds better
Paula Brown[6:57:44 PM]: My mentee wants the students to give a
speech on a product - infomercial
Catherine Ritter[6:57:52 PM]: How are you going to be gathering
information about your Mentee's progress?
Paula Brown[6:58:23 PM]: She wants the students to create a brochure
that they can hand out while they are giving the speech
Paula Brown[6:58:48 PM]: I will be there most of the time - so informally
- observations
Paula Brown[6:59:23 PM]: And the last questions are mostly regarding
classroom management
Paula Brown[6:59:43 PM]: How will you handle reluctant students?
Paula Brown[7:00:26 PM]: What opportunities will be available for
those students who are absent to catch up?
Paula Brown[7:01:00 PM]: How do your normally assess your students'
speeches?
Paula Brown[7:01:39 PM]: And last - I was going to ask her how she
feels I can assist her the most?
Paula Brown[7:02:08 PM]: I forgot - Also had a question about "connections
to real-life??
Paula Brown[7:02:26 PM]: Any suggestions or other things I could
add??
Catherine Ritter[7:04:11 PM]: Will they use a Rubric or ? for the
assessment?
Paula Brown[7:04:43 PM]: Not sure - I was wondering how she normally
assesses them??
Catherine Ritter[7:04:55 PM]: Good question.
Paula Brown[7:05:00 PM]: If not I could introduce her to rubrics
Catherine Ritter[7:05:53 PM]: How are the needs of her diverse learners
going to be met?
Catherine Ritter[7:06:20 PM]: Do any of her students require assisstive
technology devices?
Paula Brown[7:06:23 PM]: Will add that definitely
Paula Brown[7:06:50 PM]: And that - we haven't decided which period
yet so I don't know the makeup of her class yet
Paula Brown[7:07:05 PM]: But we would need to consider it anyway
Catherine Ritter[7:07:25 PM]: Very good!
Paula Brown[7:07:48 PM]: Thanks - feel better going into this session
than the last.
Catherine Ritter[7:08:04 PM]: Sounds like you have really been working
on getting the lesson started.
Paula Brown[7:08:24 PM]: We met over lunch the other day
Catherine Ritter[7:08:33 PM]: :)
Catherine Ritter[7:11:19 PM]: Paula, I really need to get with my
mentee here really quickly. Could you possibly meet me back here
in about 30 minutes (8:00) and we will do my half? We could put
the two together for our website pre-conference.
Paula Brown[7:11:49 PM]: Don't know - and sure see you at 8:00
Catherine Ritter[7:12:09 PM]: Thanks, don't forget to save what
we have.

Paula Brown[7:59:57 PM]: Hello
Catherine Ritter[8:00:15 PM]: Yes, I figured out how to use this!
Catherine Ritter[8:01:35 PM]: Well, I thought of some questions
for you.
Catherine Ritter[8:02:05 PM]: What goals do you have for yourself?
Catherine Ritter[8:03:52 PM]: How will I know if you have reached
these goals?
Paula Brown[8:04:03 PM]: Me as a mentor? To work on the assessment
side more. I feel more confident about the questioning strategies.
Paula Brown[8:04:28 PM]: Or are you referring to "yourself"
as being the teacher?
Catherine Ritter[8:04:42 PM]: You as the mentor.
Catherine Ritter[8:05:16 PM]: I think that you are doing a wonderful
job with the questioning.
Paula Brown[8:05:16 PM]: The assessments would be a bigger part
of all the documents we have to create.
Catherine Ritter[8:05:25 PM]: Yes.
Paula Brown[8:05:47 PM]: Also this lesson will involve an actual
product so that will be different for me
Catherine Ritter[8:06:00 PM]: Great.
Paula Brown[8:06:03 PM]: The last lesson was "the students
interacting with the SmartBoard"
Catherine Ritter[8:07:47 PM]: Ok, I'm new at my school so I am going
to work with my same mentee on a different lesson. I think this
one is going to be working with the students on their writing strategies.
She teaches second grade at my school.
Paula Brown[8:08:15 PM]: Sounds good
Catherine Ritter[8:08:26 PM]: Questions that I need to ask my mentee.
Catherine Ritter[8:08:37 PM]: What are the goals and objectives
for this lesson?
Catherine Ritter[8:08:50 PM]: What prior knowledge do your students
need prior to this lesson?
Catherine Ritter[8:09:03 PM]: How will you know if your students
are successful?
Catherine Ritter[8:09:16 PM]: What type of assessment are you going
to use?
Catherine Ritter[8:09:34 PM]: How do you plan to meet the needs
of diverse learners while teaching this lesson?
Catherine Ritter[8:10:21 PM]: What classroom management strategies
will you use both in the classroom and in the computer lab?
Catherine Ritter[8:10:32 PM]: How can technology be used to enhance
the lesson?
Catherine Ritter[8:10:49 PM]: In what ways can I help you to be
successful in using technology with this lesson?
Catherine Ritter[8:11:10 PM]: How will I know if you students meet
your lesson goals and objectives?
Catherine Ritter[8:11:48 PM]: And finally questions about my mentee's
professional goals:What goals do you have for yourself?
How can I help you to reach your goals?
How will I know if you have reached these goals?
Paula Brown[8:12:24 PM]: Sounds good - I forgot about classroom
management in the computer lab.
Catherine Ritter[8:12:34 PM]: Have I come up with enough questions?
Can you think of any that I may have forgotten?
Paula Brown[8:12:38 PM]: That's important esp. if the teacher hasn't
tried that before
Paula Brown[8:13:04 PM]: Possibly the "real-life" connection?
Catherine Ritter[8:13:22 PM]: Yes, the computer lab was an area
that my mentee said that she felt she needed to work on with classroom
management.
Paula Brown[8:13:22 PM]: I did my assessment model on Authentic
Assessment so that's stuck in my head
Paula Brown[8:13:49 PM]: I thought of one for me that could be for
you too
Catherine Ritter[8:14:07 PM]: Yes, I almost forgot about the "real-life"
connection.
Paula Brown[8:14:13 PM]: What areas of the lesson could promote
critical thinking or problem-solving?
Catherine Ritter[8:14:34 PM]: OH, yes the HOTS.
Paula Brown[8:14:51 PM]: I think we're ready
Catherine Ritter[8:15:07 PM]: That is one area that my principal
wants to stress.
Paula Brown[8:15:42 PM]: Next week we have a partner thing - I did
the first 5 questions and if you could do the last five I think
we come back together and discuss it
Catherine Ritter[8:16:03 PM]: Alright, are you ready to call it
a night on our pre-conference? I'll do the last five questions.
Paula Brown[8:16:29 PM]: Sure - going home to eat lasagna :)
Catherine Ritter[8:16:38 PM]: OK, bye for now.
Paula Brown[8:16:40 PM]: Good Night
