Learner factors that might impact learning in the classroom environment.

Analyzing the student learners targeted in the instructional design being developed is a means to identify the learner characteristics that will likely impact the process and outcomes of the learning experience.

Factors
Description
Advantage or Constraint
Initial Ideas for Maximizing Negative Factors

Age/Academic Range

23-? years
+
The younger teachers will catch on quicker than the older ones. Use this to the advantage.
Sex Distribution M/F
Should not effect the learning
Racial,Ethnic Diversity Caucasian
Should not effect the learning
Educational Level All are educators
Should not effect the learning in most cases
Disability or Impairment none
+

Developmentally Appropriate Appropriate for age
+

Prerequisite Knowledge Basic computer skills and familiar with the Lynx program
+

Related Experience The use of the Lynx program
-
Some remediation may be needed for the possible difference in experience.
Perception of Role as Student Willing to make this change
-
Most adults are never willing to make change. You need to show the benefits.
Motivation for Learning Required by the administration
-
They don't want to do anything if they have so try to show them why this would be a good thing.
Attitude Toward Subject Reluctant

-
same as above
Expectations from Course Use the new school lesson planning software
+

Competitiveness Average in most cases

Environment factors that impact learning.

Analyzing the environment is a means to identify the issues that will impact the (a) process of the design and production, (b) implementation, and (c) outcomes of the learning experience.

Factors
Description
Advantage or Constraint
Initial Ideas for Maximizing Negative Factors
Design and Production:

Budget Available

N/A +   Everything is already in place so budget is not needed
Materials required The Lynx software with the lesson planner loaded +
Production Equipment Available

Win2000 laptop, digital TV or data projector

+
Time for Design and Production Long term assignments +   This assignment is for learning to edit photos for the school annual and newspaper. It will be used all through the year.
Department of Technology Requirements Technology support only +
Implementation:
Class Size <15   - Not much can be done about the size. Students may have to share computers during the demonstration but assignments can be done independently while others work on other things.
Class Period Length 60 min +
Location rm 236 +
Seating Arrangement

lab classroom

  - Not easy to see what students are working on. Might want to setup tables for the explicit use of the laptops so the screens can be viewed from all areas of the room.
Lighting N/A
Temperature N/A
Noise minimal   - During the lunch change, the classroom door will need to be shut.
Equipment One laptop per person +   The 3 Win98 machines really need to be upgraded to 2000, but that can be done later.

Technology Support

none +

Outcome:

State Requirements

Employer Needs
Lesson plans online for easy access +
Co-Worker Needs
Instruction in Lesson planning software +
Student Needs
To learn how to use the lesson planning software +   All lesson plans will be available online rather than the usually print it out and turn it in. The administration can now just log on and look at your lessons for the week.

Content factors that may impact the learning:

Analyzing the content is a means to identify in general terms the topics to be addressed in your lesson and to analyze these topics in terms of the requisite sup-topics, and degree of learning difficulty.

Main Topics Sub-Topics (What Is Involved In Learning Each Main Topic?) Readiness To Learn Degree of Difficulty Possible Instructional Strategies
Setting up a lesson in Lynx for one class.

1. Merge Teks with class

2. Setting up the lesson

3. Saving the lesson and printing

The participants are already familiar with the Lynx software system. This part of the assignment should not be difficult for most of the teachers. Demonstrate how to do this and then allow each participant to setup a lesson on their own with supervision.
Link the classes that are of the same subject with the lesson

1. Choosing the classes and setting the dates

2. Linking the classes together

3. Putting in the TEKS

Knowing how to setup an individual class This part of the lesson can be frustrating because sometimes you have to link more than once. Demonstrate how to do the process and then allow them do try with supervision
