Instructional and Learning Strategies.

Analyzing the student learners targeted in the instructional design being developed is a means to identify the learner characteristics that will likely impact the process and outcomes of the learning experience.

Aspect 1: The Syntax
Learning Goals
Instructional Strageties
Instructional Actions
Students Activities
Use the digital camera connetions to download pictures to a shared folder. Demonstrate

Demonstration Steps:

  • connect camera
  • open software
  • download a picture from camera
  • access shared folder through save menu
Learner will watch and take notes if necessary.
Active Learning
  • Unhook all connections
  • Have students do the above one by one
  • Have them watch each other
Learner will repeat the steps demonstrated. They may use any notes taken. Other students will watch and learn from students mistakes and successes.
Use Photoshop to edit pictures from shared file and resave them in the proper format. Discussion
  • Explain why photos must sometimes be edited.
  • Explain why they must be stored in a certain format.
  • Explain the advanges to one file format over another
Learners will listen and take notes if necessary.

Demonstration

  • Open a file from the shared folder
  • Edit the photo using: crop, image resize, brightness and contrast, text overwriting etc...
Learners will watch, ask questions and take notes if needed.
Active Learning
  • Have the students open a photo from the shared folder and make the changes mentioned above.
  • Monitor student progress
  • Be available to answer questions
Learners will practice opening, editing photographs and saving them in the proper place and format.
Reason why the class needs to learn photoshop. Discussion

Why is photopshop needed?

How will the learning be evaluated?

At what point of the curriculum will the lesson need to be taught?

Learner explains how the lesson will fit into the class and how the grades will be evaluated. If evaluation is to be done by way of a rubric one needs to be developed.
Questions

Will the students be able to complete the projects in one class period?

How will the students work with only four copies of the software?

How will students work with only 6 computers?

Learner will brainstorm about how the lesson will be taught and the problems that might arise during the lesson.
Demonstration

Learner will need to practice the demonstration steps, as listed above, for the camera.

Learner will need to practice editing pictures using the above mentioned tools.

Learner needs to come up with before and after examples to show in class.

Examples should be in the shared folder for demonstration purposes.

The learner will need to make certain that all aspects of the demonstration is ready. They must make certain that they are comfortable with the software and the camera before trying to teach the students. The example files should be in the shared folder so that they can be opened from the same place the students will be opening their files from.
Evaluate the needs of diverse learners. Discussion

What are the learning styles of the class?

Will the strategies of the lesson meet the needs of all the learners?

If not, what other strategies can be used to make certain that all learners are successfull?

Become comfortable with the mentoring process. Reflection

Did the teacher seem comfortable with the subject?

Did the teacher have their discussion and demonstration ready for the students?

Did the teacher have the grading rubric ready?

Was the teacher comfortable asking questions about things they did not understand?

Aspect 2: The Social System

Describe the interpersonal structure of the instructional experience.

The teacher sessions will be one-on-one in either the teacher's classroom or in mine. The teacher will be walked through the demonstration phase of the lesson until they are completely comfortable. The student instruction will take place in the teacher's classroom.

Aspect 3: The role of the instructor

Describe your general instructional role. For example, will you present material, guide students as they research their own issues, etc?

The teacher will instruct the lesson, including discussion, demonstration and active learning. The mentor will be available for support if needed.

Aspect 4: The support system

Describe the types and amount of instructional, technical, and other resource support required for the instruction (e.g., instructional materials, communication capabilities).

I will need to make certain that the teacher's equipment is all working properly, that the software is loaded, her network is working and that her computer is connected to her digital TV or data projector. Once she is comfortable with the lesson then she can reach me by email or telephone for all of her support needs.
