Aspect 1 - Syntax

1. Reading & analysis of short stories with fluency and understanding

2. Writing and editing of short stories on appropriate level (writing process) genre prompt - suspense & forshadowing exposure to uses in current texts studied reading to write & writing to read (carries over from #1 above)
editing drafts highlight text and add comments to drafts in MS Word or hardcopy (word is often via email.) writing process steps from initial draft to final copy - personal anecdote
dialectical journal - suspense, forshadowing mini-lesson powerpoint (see above) writing and notes in dialectical journal.
writing in the round initial paragraph set up on PC's in PC lab. different story each PC students round robin to each computer and carry on the story - paying attention to forshadowing and suspense, character development and story plot line.
Aspect 2 - The Social System
Over the course of the lesson, students will work individually, in pairs, in groups of three, in jigsaw groups, and as a whole class (round robin style). The students are given the opportunity to choose their partners. This far in the year the students know what is expected of them and choose their partners so that they complete the tasks at hand.
Aspect 3 - the role of the instructor
Teacher-centered: Present new material, identify passages that exemplify new terms/concepts

Interactive (Dual -centered): Questioning in reading, interjecting and checking for understanding

Learner - centered: Facilitator - referee - editor. Set up of projects and equipment for student use. Monitor to maintain class on task.

Detective clue books, online quizzes, AR Quizzes (newly created), PowerPoint PC w/ TV, PC Lab with MS Word
