What is MTTC?

The Master Technology Teacher Certification Program (MTTC) is to ensure that all Texas students and educators have an individual whose major focus is to teach with technology and technology integration strategies and to serve as a mentor to other teachers. The ESC Region II Teacher Preparation Program (TTP) and Educational Technology Department is providing the Master Technology Teacher Certification Program in order to meet this need.

The MTTC program is a 12-week course of study that is facilitated entirely online. Educators may attend from anywhere they have Internet and World Wide Web access. Because of the intensive nature of online instruction, educators should expect to spend 8-15 hours or more per week on each online course.

The MTTC program consists of two online courses, each six weeks in duration, and completion of four peer mentoring field-based experiences. A passing standard must be attained for each of these components to successfully complete the MTTC program. A Master Technology Teacher certificate is obtained by successfully completing the program and passing the SBEC Texas Examinations for Master Teachers Technology certification examination (TExMaT).

In addition, the prerequisite MTTC Pre-Preparation course assesses prior technology applications knowledge and skills. The MTTC Pre-Preparation course will ensure that the participant already has a working knowledge of video editing, Web page creation, and digital graphics and animation as they relate to the Technology Applications knowledge and skills of the MTT standards. The MTTC Pre-Preparation course is offered as an online course.

The MTTC program coursework consists of:

  • Two online courses
    • MTTC 1001 Accessibility and Mentoring
    • MTTC 1002 Assessment and Mentoring

The two courses will provide the participants the opportunity to understand the application of appropriate components of the Master Technology Teacher standards. Emphasis will be on developing participants' knowledge and skills as well as appropriate application in each standard. Participants will use this information for further learning and continuing professional development.

The evaluation of coursework will be based on mastery of the MTT standards assessed with the utilization of product-based assessment tools. The evaluation of each course will be based on a composite of the product-based assessments for that course.

Peer Mentoring Field-based Experiences

Participant requirements are:

  • Participate in four peer mentoring field-based experiences that:
    • follow the program guidelines established in the MTTC 1001 course, and
    • document the experiences with the inclusion of a peer coach.
  • Submit peer mentoring documentation to two ESC Region XI mentorship evaluators who will:
    • conduct one appraisal each based on the review of the participants' submitted peer mentoring documentation addressed in their respective courses, and
    • submit one appraisal each within the last two weeks of the MTTC 1002 course.
  • Designate a site technology supervisor who will:
    • conduct an appraisal based on the observations of the participant in peer mentoring field-based experiences, and
    • submit an appraisal within the last two weeks of the MTTC 1002 course.
  • The site technology supervisor appraisal and the ESC Region XI mentorship evaluator appraisals will be an analysis and recording of the following:
    • the effectiveness of the participants' integration of technology in instruction, and
    • the participants' fulfillment of state standards with regard to
      • demonstration of knowledge and skills commensurate with the task of teaching or mentoring technology integration, and
      • implementation of the strategies presented and expected to be acquired during the training.

The summative appraisal will be based on the formulated merger of the ESC Region XI mentorship evaluator appraisals and the site technology supervisor appraisal.
