Curriculum Focus: Math Measurement

Target Goals: Students are engaged through music and learn to measure in whole inches using a standard

      ruler

Professional Goals: Use Cognitive Coaching between Mentor and Mentee to develop a lesson plan that will

      instruct and assess the ability of students to me using a standard ruler – all measurements are in inches

     and to the closest inch.

Grade Level(s): 3rd Grade, Bilingual and ESL

Number of Students: Approximately 20 (our student count changes constantly, since we are dealing with

     immigrant children and their families come and go across the border constantly.

Amount of Time: lesson will be over 2 days, 60 minutes each day

Other: - We are getting a new Computer lab and as soon as those computer arrive and are decaled, etc., the computers currently in the lab will be placed in classrooms. Mr. Amaya should be receiving 3 computers, which will allow the students to work online and with a computer math program.

Other: HotDots using HotDot pen and the actual hot and cold dots added to an assessment for Special Ed student. This is a lesson that Special Ed student can accomplish working with other students in the classroom. Special software and assistive devices are not necessary for this assignment.

Explain: Technology for the initial implementation of the lesson includes the instructor’s use of computer and LCD projector to project PowerPoint presentation on screen and presentation includes songs and graphics; later technology can include SmartBoard (available for K-3 through Reading First Initiative) and computers which are coming into the classroom as the Computer Lab’s new computers are delivered.
