Post-Observation Chat

Lisa Rogers has joined the chat.

Lisa Rogers[5:25:48 PM]: are you there

DeLana Lightfoot[5:25:57 PM]: Hi Lisa! I'm here.

Lisa Rogers[5:26:04 PM]: How was your conference?

DeLana Lightfoot[5:26:33 PM]: Pretty interesting. Went over the new Creative Suite 3 from Adobe.

Lisa Rogers[5:27:02 PM]: Sounds fun, I'm doing Moodle training July23.

DeLana Lightfoot[5:27:30 PM]: Yes I looked that up when I saw you guys talking about that. What exactly is that?

Lisa Rogers[5:28:17 PM]: I'm not really sure what all is involved, I'm interested in the online quizzes part.

Lisa Rogers[5:29:04 PM]: OK - I hope you know what we are suppose to be talking about, because I'm not really sure

DeLana Lightfoot[5:29:16 PM]: Hey, adobe has this new software called Presenter and Captivate 2. It's awesome. You oughtta check it out.

Lisa Rogers[5:29:59 PM]: If it costs anything - they won't buy it. We spend all this money on laptops for each kid but don't think about how to make them productive.

DeLana Lightfoot[5:30:45 PM]: Very nice, huh? I'm reading through module 5's administrative activity once more.

Lisa Rogers[5:31:51 PM]: I looked at jkeith's and it looks like they asked each other questions about how successful the lesson will be, how they felt about their job as a mentor etc.

DeLana Lightfoot[5:32:29 PM]: Okay. How do you think the lesson that Jeanne delivers using technology will go? Successful?

Lisa Rogers[5:33:12 PM]: I think it will be very successful mainly because of her abilities.

DeLana Lightfoot[5:34:41 PM]: You guys are incorporting a web quest to help define and learn how the organsms adapt to survive?

Lisa Rogers[5:35:56 PM]: Yes, after they have learned about the functions of each system in the body. Then they will do a webquest and finally they will do a database. Which was the piece of technology she had to incorporate this year.

DeLana Lightfoot[5:36:36 PM]: Was there any problems she encountered this year incorporating the technology?

Lisa Rogers[5:38:23 PM]: Lack of computers. Last year we had no open labs, so the science department and the technology department teamed together to give the science students time to reasearch in their lab, but the technology department had problems because we didn't know the content. Once the students recieve their own laptops, I think the use of technology will soar.

DeLana Lightfoot[5:40:07 PM]: Good. Do you think there will be any issues controlling or monitoring the students productivity of the lesson? Will the internet be firewalled or controlled? What happens if they forget their laptop or it isn't charged? I think you discussed this already in our lessons, but I thought I'd ask again.

Lisa Rogers[5:41:42 PM]: There will always be an issue monitoring Internet access. We are firewalled but they always figure a way around it. We haven't quite figured out what the procedures will be if they forget their laptops or they aren't charged. Hopefully each classroom will have a couple of extra laptops.

DeLana Lightfoot[5:43:38 PM]: It sounds like you've done a good job with your mentee communicating on the technology and the lesson to be delivered. Did you feel good with your mentoring methods and trust relationship you build/already had with your mentee Jeanne?

Lisa Rogers[5:45:28 PM]: Yes, we worked very closely last year. I had conference period so she could use my lab for one period plus advisory and we developed alot of technology infused lessons during that long period. I feel that she trusts that I know my technology part and I know that she knows the science part.

DeLana Lightfoot[5:46:23 PM]: It sounds like you've been and will continue to be a great mentor for her. Any other areas we need to discuss?

Lisa Rogers[5:46:48 PM]: No, not it's your turn.

Lisa Rogers[5:47:37 PM]: Do you feel Willie's lesson will be successful?

DeLana Lightfoot[5:49:07 PM]: Okay. I have been mentoring Christina, a high school health teacher. She really wants to incorporate technology into the drug abuse lesson. I think the technology will help this somewhat "boring" lesson and help kinetically involved the students and help them retain the very important information...especially since there has been so many "cheese" deaths in the last year.

Lisa Rogers[5:50:00 PM]: How will you help her use the technologies that you discovered for her?

DeLana Lightfoot[5:51:42 PM]: She would like to have the student use PowerPoint. I think this is a good decision. I will help her by suggesting certain ways to instruct the students on the computer usage, computer monitoring and information delivery. She is confident using PowerPoint, but wasn't all that confident about having to teach the use of it.

Lisa Rogers[5:52:36 PM]: Will you be available during her instruction or will you work together to develop student instructions?

DeLana Lightfoot[5:54:23 PM]: I do not have a conference period. So...I will not be there during any instruction. She can come talk to me during her conference period to discuss any snags she may run into, or she can email me, which I will promptly respond to. We will work to develop the information/instructions before the lesson and re-assess after the first lesson is delivered.

Lisa Rogers[5:55:29 PM]: Sounds like a good idea. Do you feel you have mad progress toward your professional goal of discovering new technologies to be used in the classroom?

DeLana Lightfoot[5:58:07 PM]: I really do. Our district is very good about spending money for technology and the integration of it. If we find some new software that will enhance the classroom instruction, our district works hard to get it. As I said before...adobe has some really interesting new software that will totally change some of the ways we can teach and delivery technology to our students.

Lisa Rogers[5:58:42 PM]: It was evident that you researched technologies by not only finding a United Streaming video but checking into getting a site license.  Do you feel you have built trust with your mentee?

DeLana Lightfoot[6:00:19 PM]: Yes. We had a previous good working relationship before. We coached softball together for 4 years. Needless to say...we've spend some time together and have a really good, trusting relationship. Its really helped us. She's not afraid to ask me something, and I'm not afraid to really tell her the truth.

Lisa Rogers[6:01:19 PM]: Sounds great. Do you have any more questions/thoughts/ideas?

DeLana Lightfoot[6:02:10 PM]: I think we're both on the right track.

DeLana Lightfoot[6:02:26 PM]: Hope you got everything straightened out at home yesterday.

Lisa Rogers[6:03:14 PM]: You know girl drama!!!. Have a great time in Mexico, we are going camping on the beach in Florida NO KIDS

DeLana Lightfoot[6:04:37 PM]: Well, well. Then you have a good time. Don't get poison ivy and watch out for the chiggers!

Lisa Rogers[6:05:13 PM]: I've had both of those and they are not fun. I will copy this and send it to you. I want to be done tomorrow, so i don't have to find a wi-fi connection.

DeLana Lightfoot[6:05:33 PM]: Thanks. Have a great time!

Lisa Rogers[6:05:38 PM]: bye
