Digital Graphics/Animation

Reflection:

In looking back on this assignment, I realize how optimistic I really was about this entire course. I wanted to do well and the "Squash" assignment was something that I could really do. This is the stuff that I teach and this particular assignment was more fun than anything.

When I teach my students I want them to have this same kind of feeling, I want them to be optimistic about their learning and feel confident in what they are doing. If they are given the tools to create, their options are almost unlimited.

I love what I teach because it can be so personalized. One student might really want to do something tedious in Illustrator, while another might love the extras in Photoshop. It's funny to watch how they progress in their learning. I have progressed in the same way. At the beginning of this course, I was very frustrated, but now it gets easier every day. The skills I have learned help me with my students.

I hope it is okay that I used this very first graphics that I did in visions. Honestly, I'm learning (and I mean JUST learning) the ins and outs of web design. I have always been more of a graphics person. This design brings me back to the time in this whole thing when I could actually do a project and feel proud of it. I thought this was so much fun because I already knew how to do it. This artifact assignment has given me a chance to realize how frustrating TA can be for my students. We assume that people know how to do things, but in reality, they need patience, kindness and understanding

Adobe Photoshop 6.0

Description:

In this assignment, we were to take all the vegetable pieces and create a specific "person" out of them. I used approximately 16 different layers and created the "happy couple."

Rationale:

This assignment was created to help the instructor become more aware of the skills in her class. It was a good way to "test" the newbees to see what she was up against. Many people steer clear of photoshop (and for good reason). It can be a menacing program. It is very powerful, however, and when it is mastered, nothing else will do.

Implications for future:

Sometimes I just like to do fun assignments. We all need to relax occasionally. The good things about this assignment is that it teaches invaluable lessons not only about layering, but also about masking and cutting out parts.

Reviewers Comments:

"I wish that I could know better how to do that stuff you do with layers. It would make this cutting and pasting thing lots easier. Those are so cute."
