Task Appropriate Tools in Problem-Solving

Use task-appropriate tools to synthesize knowledge, create and modify solutions, and evaluate results in a way that supports the work of individuals and groups in problem-solving situations.

Teaching teachers if probably one of the difficult tasks I have tried. We expect our students to pay attention, but when it comes to a group of teachers, it's hard to keep them on task. I have taught some staff development over the years and what works best is sometimes not giving them things they can take back to the classroom, but giving them the tools they need to create things that they can make themselves and take back to the classroom. One of the assignments in the web design portion was to create a website that teaches teachers how to create websites. It was difficult, but with some basics some of the instructors could have another tool to interest their students. I tried to make this website as simple and easy to follow as possible with some detailed visuals to help with links and other information.

Description:

This is a beginning (101) website built for teachers who have never done websites before. It doesn't go in-depth about how to, but it shows them the premise behind web building. It is used to encourage them to not be afraid of the process and to show them how much more than can do in the computer lab with a website. It's very universal and students can access it from anywhere.

Rationale:

This site was designed to help teachers who have had no web building experience. It would be good to use as a preliminary assignment for a workshop that teaches basic web building.

Implications for future:

Hopefully teachers who have been afraid of this before will use this site to show them the basics.

Traci,
I love your lightening background. The colors are great! Your site is simple and logical, with plenty of examples to help one get started. I really liked the music.
