Web Mastering

The Web mastering teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in Web mastering, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

Reflection:

Before I started the web mastering course, I had a limited amount of knowledge about building pages. I could put all of the art and info together, but had a really hard time laying out the pages in a nice, visual way. It was very frustrating at first and this was really my first real attempt at web building. I don't teach web mastering, but lots of my kids are very good at this sort of thing. I think it would be a great 6-week lesson to implement even in desktop publishing.

Web pages are the new, hot thing and kids need to at least know how it all works together.

For this assignment, I designed a travel website for convicts. Yes, you heard me right, convicts. It is called "Getaway" travel. Pardon the spoof, but it was something different. I built the graphic for the travel agency in Adobe Illustrator 10. I found all the police departments in Texas and copied their website addresses to my sight.

Description:

This assignment was our first attempt at building a real website with multiple pages. We were to create our own travel agency with destinations and any pert in ant information

Rationale:

I chose this creation because it has a combination of my own creations, but also websites that were already created. The law enforcement page, for example, was a source file that I copied, but it actually works. Instead of links, many times you can copy the source good and get excellent results. This site is also humorous and I like humor.

Implications for future:

This will help me get a better grasp of web authoring. I can learn as I go and get better as the assignments get tougher

Description:

This website was created to give people a better idea about how to hand animation, music and video. Sometimes it can get a little tricky so I tried to simplify it and give only the basics.

Rationale:

I chose this because this is what students want to know about and they will be interested in any kind of media that they can find. As far as students are concerned music, sounds and animation are the greatest things they can use. They are going to want to know how to do this kind of thing. They want their websites to be great.

Implications for future:

I tend to use lots of sound and video files in all of my websites. I want to get better at using them so that I can teach my students how to use them.

Also, I like the different look, instead of just a chart with everything squared up, you added some neat table effects that make your page so much different from the norm. Great job! One possible change could be the white background. I have a hard time with the starkness of white, since I have some vision problems. A nice soft color would add to the already incredible site you have done."

I'm assuming your assignment was to locate 3 webtools and discuss them as you did. Your web tools site was very informative. The examples that you chose to represent each tool were very good. I especially liked the audio clip. The overall site is very professional looking.
