Multimedia

The multimedia teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in multimedia, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

Reflection

Multimedia is an area of technology that has so many outlets and directions learners can travel or take. I had a chance to actually pool my resources in order to integrate several different types of media. This course really gave me a chance, as a learner, to visualize how the different types of media can all be integrated to work simultaneously within one overall product. I know that the artifacts I have submitted for this course are some of my best works to date. I am still learning and will always be, but I do know that multimedia has so many faces and I intend to explore as many of those possibilities as I can in the future.

Title: Scarface Movie Integration

Course: 104 Exploratory Multimedia

Date Created: March 2003

Source: Internet Resources

Media: Web Page, Animation, Video

Description:Through peer discussion and course resources, I created a multimedia presentation presented in a web page to include a video and audio clip based upon my favorite movie/TV show. By gathering resources and information from the Internet about my favorite movie, I was able to manipulate audio and video for the movie Scarface. I knew that this particular movie had a target audience and a huge fan base; therefore, it was a topic of true interest and it also met the requirements for the course activity. I initially downloaded a video clip from an internet source and edited a few parts of the clip using Videowave. I then located several audio clips from the same movie title and manipulated those clips through Cool Edit 2000, a sound editing program. I was able to take three completely different audio clips and merge them together while adding other sound effects to enhance the clip. I also searched for fan based sites and related links about Scarface to add to my final web page. To add to the overall theme of the final to web page, I added an introductory splash page that incorporated an animation to introduce viewers to the web page. Overall, this was a multimedia presentation incorporating all of the areas of multimedia. Finally, I published and uploaded the site by way of Adobe GoLive and the First Class Client software in a universal format.

Rationale: I have chosen this artifact as one of my best works. I considered that I was able to exhibit several of the skills I acquired from other courses by creating a multimedia presentation in the form of a web page. I ventured into very new territory with sound editing principles and techniques. I found that it was truly worthwhile to understand the realm of sound. I can actually visualize my growth as a learner and participant in an online community moreso in this artifact because of the span of its technical base.

Implications for future: Having a community of online learners is such a great benefit when one is venturing into new and unchartered territory. I would like to incorporate the activities and resource base I have been exposed to in multimedia into one of my courses that I teach. The techniques and skills built into this course are priceless and students could gain a great deal from participating in a course with a framework as such.

Title: Interactive Internet Photo Album

Course: Multimedia

Date Created: February 2003

Source: Individual Project

Media: MS Powerpoint, Adobe Photoshop, Jasc Animation Factory

Description: For this project, several components and critieria were involved. A photo album, relating to some aspect of our lives, had to be created to include a collection of images. The album had to be presented via a web page with a minimum of two pages to include a splash page and the web apge itself. For the photo album, 5-10 images had to be selected that were a combination of vector and bitmapped images. The pictures had to be edited in some manner and a title had to be selected. The final photo album needed to be created using presentation software. The website had to include some additional components such as:
-a video related to your theme
-brief desciptions of each picture
-summary of bitmapped images
-a link to the presentation
-credits page

Rationale: I have selected this artifact because I know that it incoporates several TA subjects and it exhibits a definite display of my skills in planning and creating multimedia presentations. I really liked working on this project because it was about me. I had an opportunity to showcase my skills and some interesting facets of my life. I thought that web authoring was one of my better subjects, but I have realized that I take an even greater interest in multimedia topics. I guess they pretty much go hand in hand. I am very proud of my splash page because it took a great of time and it turnes out really well, in my opinion.

Implications for future: I can see this project as a great final or midterm exam project. It provides a vehicle for the incorporation of many areas of technology and it also provides students with numerous directions and possibilities for creativity.
