Acquire, Analyze, and Evaluate Information

Identify task requirements, apply search strategies, and use current technology to efficiently acquire, analyze, and evaluate a variety of electronic information.

Reflection
Research is vital to the advancement of technology and as a result of my learning experience in this area, I was able to see full circle, the benefits of having a vast array of resources to pool from in order to acquire, analyze, and evaluate information. Foundations provided me with so much throught the various reading and learning tasks. Had it not have been for the strong grounding that I obtained early in this program, I so not think I would have been as successful in processing everything in each of the courses to follow. The current technologies, such as online communties, is by far the most rich experience that I have the opportunity to participate in.

Descriptors: Portfolios, Protfolio Development

Title: Portfolio Development Report

Course: Foundations 100

Date Created: August 2002

Source: Individual Project

Media: MS Word, Adobe Acrobat

Description: After extensive research and readings, a report on the development process for portfolios had to be presented using a widely accepted format. This particular assignment was based on the research of Helen Barrett concerning portfolio development. The presentation had to include a summarization of the Helen Barrett readings, definitions pertaining to portfolios and descriptions of the three areas that reflections are applied. For the later, we were asked to find an example, in the previously submitted portfolios, which depicted an excellent reflection in each category. The final document had to be presented in rtf or pdf format.

Rationale: Survival of the Fittest was my motto in this particular instance. Being able to acquire information and analyze or evaluate it is a skill that I have managed to enhance through this program. I have been exposed to such a vast array of resources which not only helped to gain a better understanding of portfolios and their uses, but it had also provided me with a better grasp on software skills. Craeating pdf documents was a new thing to me. Many time we think eveyone has access to the software that we use to create a document, but this is not always true. Being to present information in a variety of formats is in a must in today's world of technology

Implications for future: By any means necessary, the topic of portfolios should be addressed to all types of learners. Alternative formas of assessment are becoming so popular due tot he effective use of new and innovative techniques. These types of assessment will allow for the evalaution of all types of learners in many different situations. I would liket o have my students create and maintain a portfolio especially when dealing with TA subject areas due to the limitations of traditonal forms of assessment.

Reviewers Comments: "I agree with the disadvantages and did not even think of these. Your right when you are expecting to use the server to work on things that when the server fails...now we have to take a step back and try to do something else constructive with the down time."
