Digital Graphics

Description
This graphic image was created by Steven Toh as a part of his portfolio for the University of California at Berkley. This particular piece was created circa 1999
Analysis
This image utilizes varying elements of design such as value, repetition of shape and color which add depth and emphasis on the objects in the graphic. Texture also plays a major role in this particular piece.
Interpretation
The artist tries to convey turmoil or disaster since red is associated with evil. The light in the middle of the storm evokes an inner strength pulling the viewer into the image.
Judgment
This particular graphic has many layers and shading played a great role here, but the color red it is bit too strong in my opinion. If viewed for long periods of time it begins to affect one's vision. The use of light text on the bold background brings some light to the image.

Animation
Description
This animation was created by webdeveloper.com in 2002 for free usage in personal web devlopment.(Copyright,2000 INT Media Group, Inc. All rights reserved. Reprinted with permission from http://www.internet.com.)
Analysis
The emphasis in this animation is on the center of the atom. The repetition of circular shapes creates a sense of motion. The variation in the tint of the circles on the black background create a mysterious mood.
Interpretation
The artist/designer attempts to provoke a realistic approach to understanding the movement of atoms in that every element, no matter what, has a center that controls all functions.
Judgment
This animation has true realism. It also like the symbolism of the "atom being the center" and the focus that was placed on the center object. The use of a bold background and variance in tint/shading attributed to the feel of movement.
Web Authoring
Description
This image is a shot of a web page created by Tammy Patton in 1996 for Loogootee West Elementary School.
Analysis
The primary color set is definitely child centered and fun. The logo background color of black provides a very visible foundation for the school's name, which stands out with the use of varying color . The streaming banner is somewhat distractive with the use of such vibrant colors.
Interpretation
This web page is was created to provide information to parents, students, faculty, and staff. It's use of primary colors and vibrant text frames along with graphic images set the stage for the evident audience.
Judgment
This web page is very user friendly and colorful. Its is a bit crowded with information, but it provides the basic inofrmation the audience is looking for.

Description
This multimedia presentaion was created by Tanisha Lee using MS Powerpoint in 1999 for use in science classes with a focus on the "Chemistry of candy" .
Analysis
The use of complimentary colors adds a boldness to this presenatation. It provides good use of student-centered graphics that reinforce the textual material. Balance and symmetry within these slides is very prominent. The rule of thirds is observed within some of the slides in this presentation.
Interpretation
The creator tries to convey the historical value of information and products that we have enhanced today through the area of chemistry and various technolgies. As a teacher, the creator portrayed many images and transitions in the presentation to maintain student interest while covering a particular subject.
Judgment
The presentation runs a bit slow in the browser and transitions may need adjusting in order to give the audience a chance to grasp information, especially with students. Although graphics are quite generic, they serve the purpose of enhancing the textual information.

Desktop Publishing
Description
This advertisement was published in the 2002 American Airlines travel guide book as a promotion for Coral Hotels in the Carribean.
Analysis
The use of the color red is quite eyecathcing and draws the reader into the ad. The use of the blue and green backgrounds provide the natural feel and peacefulness of the earth. The riplpling effect also gives the reader a sense of motion or floatation which relates to the overall theme of the island in itself. The male image with open arms provides not depth, but a feeling of abundance.
Interpretation
The creator used vivid imagery and interesting graphic elements to enlist the reader's attention. The overall idea is the fact that these establishments have almost everything to offer and allow for travelers to relax and enjoy the earth, namely the warm climate and cool waters.
Judgment
This work is an excellent display of how what ones sees can have an extreme affect on mood and desire. This add is able to provoke reader's into finding out just what each establishment has to offer. Better use of the bottom third of the page is a suggestion along with the exclusion of unecessary text at the bottom of the page.

Description
This video was found on the royalty free Ulead Pick-A-Video site and is available for free download at Ulead. Its creator is unknown.
Analysis
A strong emphasis was placed on the center of the video by having moving images (people) entering the video. Lines played a major role in this piece causing a central focal point. A sense of motion was provided by the constant movement of objects in the video especially the vehicles.
Interpretation
It seems as though the creator attempted to depict life in the inner city with its constantly moving pace as displayed by the moving objects and ecstatic sounds.
Judgment
This video definitely shows the importance of lines and symmetry along with varying elements of design. The blurred characters was a useful technique in the attempt to provide the feel of motion. The vivid sounds add reality to the video.
