Multimedia

The multimedia teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in multimedia, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

Reflection on this Standard:
Multimedia is the TA course that really brings it all together. Multimedia encompases digital graphics, audio, and video, and sometimes in a web format too. It is the technique for combining all of these elements to enhance overall communication rather than detract from it that is the goal - and I believe that I have learned some very valuable techniques for making this happen.

Description:
This project was created as an example lesson for the Region XI Principals Symposium. The focus was to demonstrate ways to integrate a variety of media resources into a lesson plan for a secondary social studies classroom and to highlight some of the resources that are available to campuses in Region XI. The PowerPoint includes digital video clips from both UnitedStreaming and DigitalCurriculum, facts and digital graphics from Facts on File, Brittianica, TLC, Gale, and Grolier, as well as some original graphics designed in Photoshop. Finally, a lesson plan is provided in PDF format for an audience of principals and secondary teachers.

Rationale:
I chose to include this project because it demonstrates the integration of a wide variety of media elements in a format that integrates those elements into a curriculum lesson plan. While I chose to include this as an artifact demonstrating multimedia, it also demonstrates many elements of digital graphics and video too.

Implications for future:
I intend to use this lesson plan in future workshops as a demonstration of how to integrate digital resources and technology in general into classroom lessons. I also intend to use this as a model to develop additional sample lessons addressing other subject areas and grade levels.

Reviewers Comments:
Excellent lesson and a great use of our media resources - this would be a great model for workshops in many different areas and topics.
