Desktop Publishing
The desktop publishing teacher has the knowledge and skills needed
to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving
Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas
Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in desktop publishing, in
addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards
I-V.
Reflection on this Standard:
Desktop Publishing was an area of TA that I had a general working
knowledge before TATC but no real specific knowledge. I learned
so much about the fundamentals of Desktop Publishing, communication
through publication, universal formats, design principles, and so
much more. The publication unit was most instrumental in developing
my skill in working wtih a variety of different programs and layouts
and to make it accessible to all. I also learned a lot about communicating
to your intended audience in our discussion activity.

Title: Library Harvest: Call for Presentations
Course: Desktop Publishing
Date Created: April 29, 2003
Source: Original creation based on information received
from Cherry Fuller
Media: Microsoft Publisher
Description:
This project was work product created as a flyer calling for presentations
at ESC Region XI's Fall Library Harvest. The layout was an original
layout designed in Publisher and the clip art graphics were available
within the Publisher Clip-Art gallery. The final product was published
in PDF format for web publication
Rationale:
I chose to include this project because it encorporated many of
the elements of desktop publishing in a product that has functionality,
mass audience accessibility, and demonstrates many of the principles
of document design.
Implications for future:
The skills learned in producing this document are skills that I
will apply frequently in daily work products, in desgining future
professional development curriculum, and in classroom activities.
I also was able to practice using the various principles of visual
design and observe their impact on a "real world" product
which has allowed me to improve those skills for future work.
Reviewers Comments:
