Standards I

Informed Decision Making

Use technology-related terms, concepts, data input strategies, and ethical practices to make informed decisions about current technologies and their applications.

Reflection on this Standard:
While I came into TATC with a strong background in web authoring, multimedia, and digital graphics, I have learned many new concepts and strategies in the areas of desktop publishing and video, as well as "filled in the gaps" of my prior knowledge. TATC has given me a much broader perspective on the ways that TA can be applied and taught in different environments. Furthermore, the emphasis placed on ethics throughout all of the courses has given me much greater insight into appropriate practices and copyright considerations.

Title: Project Proposal for ESC XI Media Portal

Course: Work Product for ESC XI Library and Instructional Media Services

Date Created: 5/19/2003

Source: www.EnScaler.com www.accordent.com and supporting e-mail documents

Media: Desktop Publishing, Digital Graphics

Description:
This document was prepared to accompany a project proposal presentation for Dr. Randy Douglas, Director of Educational Technology, ESC Region XI, to propose purchasing a suite of software to be used to develop a web-based media portal for live video presentations from ESC XI.

Rationale:
I chose to include this document because it represents the results of a high level of knowledge of current technologies (video streaming, web publishing, and networking), a solid working knowledge of the related terminology and concepts, and the ability to make decisions based upon that knowledge.

Implications for future:
This is a project that will become an integral part of the video resources provided to campuses across Region XI and, as such, a large part of my daily work responsibilities. In the future, I will continue to need to be able to make similar, and even more complex decisions and this will continue to be an essential skill for me.

Reviewers Comments:
Great presentation - thanks for all your hard work on this!
