Managed a team of Internet/Intranet programmers and online specialists to create innovative materials for use by college students and professors. Responsible for $1M budget and $4.5M revenue.
  • Designed/developed a single access point for book information, using XML and Microsoft technologies, reducing labor costs by 70%, and time-to-market for book data by 90%.
  • Created increasingly complex versions of a dynamic, online store that resulted in increased sales of 290% over a six-month period and highly reduced creation costs.
  • Created and delivered education modules to publisher, editor, production, and sales groups on internet usage, development, and educational appropriateness.
  • Conducted quarterly training and status sessions for project manager and editorial staffs on latest internet technologies and application to editorial product.
  • Committee Chair and designer for the Harcourt XML DTD defining basic book/product information. Segments of this DTD were consolidated into the ONIX standards for book information, maintained by the Book Industry Study Group (http://www.bisg.org).

  • Primary contact for Internet systems consolidation during the definition and implementation phase of Thomson Learning's acquisition of Harcourt College Publishers.
  • Created a set of online tutorials for project managers on internet protocols, character sets, and development methods.

TANDY CORPORATION/RADIO SHACK: 1994-1998

Developed applications and led teams of developers to create computer-based presentations and marketing programs.
  • Created the initial web presence for Tandy Corporation and its divisions: RadioShack, Incredible Universe, Computer City, and TechAmerica.
  • Developed an online catalog using Microsoft technologies and UNIX that used mainframe data; reused as the base infrastructure for the current RadioShack Online Catalog.
  • Developed and presented training sessions to Tandy Corporation technical and non-technical management on the uses and benefits of internet systems.
  • Implemented and developed a testing lab using Microsoft 3.51 and SQL Server 6.5 for prototyping and implementing "state-of-the-art" Internet/Intranet technologies, insuring minimal downtime in the production environment. Tested load and efficiency of the transition catalog application from its C/mSQL implementation to the ASP beta/SQL Server version.
  • Automated manual entry procedures using C-based/TCPIP socket communications between AS400 and Tandem platforms, reducing manual costs to zero and transaction processing time by 95%.
