Instruction that Incorporates Technology

Know how to plan, organize, deliver, and evaluate instruction for all students that incorporates the effective use of current technology for teaching and integrating the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) into the curriculum.

From the Foundations course through the Extended course, each project we created required us to plan, organize, deliver, and evaluate the project as well as incorporate the effective use of technology.  Each of the projects can be used with our students. We were required to actually plan, create, and deliver lesson plans and other activities with evaluation rubrics in several of the courses.  Then we had to deliver the lesson or activity either in a web page format or in a universally readable format so that it could be used or downloaded by any viewer.

After doing these activities I feel very comfortable in my ability to create, deliver and evaluate instructions in the TA courses for my students.  During the summer break I am compiling the projects I have already created, as well as those that my classmates have shared with us, and I plan on creating new ones to use with my students.

Title: Discussion 3: Desktop Publishing Unit/Lesson Plans

Course: 104 Desktop Publishing: Module 4-Stand and Deliver - The Classroom Awaits

Date Created: February 5, 2003

Source: Independent Project, Module 4 Unit/Lesson Plans Instructions

Media: Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat 5, SnagIt, Internet, Microsoft Clip Art

Description: A Desktop Publishing unit/lesson plan was to be developed and shared with Channel One class members. The unit/lesson plan was to be published as a universally assessable file such as rtf or pdf files for publishing, with a product descriptor evaluation sent to the class teacher.
The unit/lesson plans had to include:
bulletObjective of the unit/lesson
bulletTeacher tools and supplies list
bulletConcepts and TEKS applications
bulletSample product of lesson
bulletTerms utilized in lesson
bulletProcedures used in instruction, assessment tool
bulletSources used
bulletSoftware requirements
bulletHardware requirements
bulletClassroom instructions
bulletClassroom lab time
bulletAuxiliary applications for modifications, G/T students, etc.

Rationale:  I included this project to demonstrate my ability to plan, organize, deliver, and evaluate instruction for all students that incorporates the effective use of current technology for teaching and integrating the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) into the curriculum. This project was to demonstrate skills learned during the desktop publishing module and create a resource unit/lesson database for Channel One students.

Implications for future: This module as well as this unit/lesson plan activity has opened my eyes to some of the skills I needed to improve on in desktop publishing.  I have already used some of the new skills I have learned in my personal desktop publishing activities for the school, such as some of the workshop handouts, memos, and student handouts I have created since we started this module.  I have printed out all of the unit/lesson plans that the Channel One students have made and will use them with my classes as examples and resources.

Reviewers Comments: This is somewhat after the fact, Sheryl, but I really liked your lesson. I have been going through and printing out some of the lessons today for a resource, and I revisited yours with a little more time to look. I especially liked your Student Instructions with the examples of screen shots. I'm sure this would be very helpful for students. Your sample was great, too. Thanks for the great resource!
