Digital Graphics/Animation

The digital graphics/animation teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in digital graphics/animation, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

Reflection:

Digital Graphics and Animation were quite a challenge.  There are so many components to learn, especially if you are just starting from scratch.   I am much more comfortable now with the terminology and tools of each but have a long way to go before being even mildly proficient. As time allows I intend to pursue additional training in digital graphics. Animation is of less interest to me so will probably be put on the “wait and see” list of learning opportunities.

Title: An Analysis of the Effective Use of the Elements and Principles of Design

Course: Foundations 100

Date Created: August 2002

Source:  Individual project

Media: Originally a picture from a website that was downloaded into a Power Point slide

Description:  Students were asked to find examples of the various TA topics, with the exception of Computer Science.  Students were required to describe the examples and where they came from, analyze each example based on elements included.  Students had to interpret what the creator had been attempting to show the viewer. Students had to provide a judgment as to whether or not the work was effective.

Rationale:  Elements and Principles of Design are important to any multimedia presentation, be it a website, video, or simple slide show.  By going through the process of finding the different elements, the students learned how to look at the products with a more discernable eye.  The student was required to evaluate the technology applications on a more complicated plain than just through personal opinion and training.

The entire process of setting up the various examples enabled the student to apply the foundations of the TA course.

Implications for future:  Learning the elements of design early in our TATC course will allow us to have a more discriminating eye to what we produce throughout the learning process.  It will also be very beneficial to me in assisting the various campus webmasters in knowing what will catch the eye of any individual.
