Video Technology

The video technology teacher has the knowledge and skills needed to teach the Foundations, Information Acquisition, Work in Solving Problems, Communication strands of the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in video technology, in addition to the content described in Technology Applications Standards I-V.

Reflection

I just thought the other elements of TATC were difficult!  This was the hardest -- and in the end -- the most enjoyable and satisfying of all.  Watching everything fall into place and actually work was just awesome.  I intend to pursue this area in depth for personal use if not for school.  Since I do not actually teach any classes, it will not be something I will need to pursue for school; however, it is something I really enjoyed and I want to become better at.

Descriptors:  Video and audio technology, group collaboration, production roles, sound, compression, storyboard and web-based product.

Title:  Moods

Course: 105 Video Tech 2

Date Created: March 26, 2003

Source:  Group collaboration with all contributing to video, one doing the storyboard, one doing the sound and one being the final editor.

Media:  MGI VideoWave, MS Front Page, sound files and movie clips from Internet sources, digital photos

Description:  This was a collaborative effort where each member had a specific job with the others contributing to each section.  The group was to convey a specific mood without actually telling the mood.  A website was created to present the video and document the process.

Rationale:  I selected this piece as recommended by our instructor to show collaborative work done.  However, our editor did a great deal of the work and encountered a lot more stress than the other two of us in the group.  We did learn to work around time implications since we were doing everything by e-mail.  My role was to put the storyboard together which I did using MS Front Page. That enabled our editor to insert it directly into our website.  I became very frustrated with the video end of this but did learn a great deal by the time we were finished.

Implications for future:  This assignment taught me that it is okay to work in groups and that it will get done without my being the only "hands on" person.  I saw that delegation can work and can produce a much better product than just an individual can produce and the different personalities can be shown without losing continuity.  If I were a classroom teacher, I can see great potential for this type of assignment, especially if it is a very detailed project.

Reviewers Comments: Very nice project!!! Your video clearly communicated a feeling of panic and struggling to survive.  The different videos that you picked and the music you used fit together nicely to convey the mood.  Good job!

Title:  Music Video

Course:  TATC 105 - Video Technology 2

Date Created:  April 16, 2003

Source: Individual Project

Media:  FrontPage, Video Wave, Adobe Photoshop,  SoundMax, Pixela, Microsoft Digital Media

Description: This assignment required that I create a music video from a soundtrack or recording and sell the artist to the public.  It was required that there be both video and still photos and not be any longer than two minutes.

Rationale: This project allowed the participants to plan, produce and edit a video program and present on a webpage.  It required timelines and periodic reporting on the progress based on those timelines.  It required strict adherence to the timeline which was a great help!

Best Work:  I felt this was my very best work of the year.  It incorporated everything we have learned in some form or fashion.  It includes web mastering, video, multimedia, and a lot of "blood, sweat and tears!"  I felt like I had given birth to another child by the time I was done and was nearly as proud.

Implications for future:  I seriously doubt that I will utilize a lot of what I learned in this project but the discipline taught and the specific areas will probably come in very handy as I pursue other areas of video.

Reviewers Comments: Wow, Sara, what a great music video.  The images and the music went together extremely well.  I also liked that you included the lyrics to the song on your web page.  You did a great job advertising Toby Keith's music.
