Over the years I have had a very low
frustration threshold and it has been something
that has needed working on. I never dreamt
that signing up for TATC would be the key to
controlling it! This has been the longest
year in so many ways and, yet, the shortest when
I look back at all that has been accomplished.
Starting out I felt adequately prepared since
I was proficient in all Microsoft Office tools
and some easy Adobe programs. Little did I
know that that would not even come close to
doing the projects we were assigned. As
technology director for our school district, I
had not kept up with the current software as
much as I thought. Since I don't teach it
I don't touch it. That has since changed!
I have made a promise to myself that I will
continue to learn new software packages as time
allows. Especially the packages that are
mentioned in professional publications more than
others.
As for the various standards, I guess Desktop
Publishing was the easiest for me and the only
one that didn't make me cry every time I
attempted another project. I did learn
quite a bit more about the subject but no "eye
openers!" Digital Graphics and Animation
was never really conquered. I kind of
understand animation but have a long way to go.
This is one area I am not too sure I will try to
become professional in any time soon.
Multimedia was fun but another big challenge.
I am currently working on learning more on this
subject so that I can use it for personal
projects and, possibly, teaching an adult ed
class for our community. Believe it or
not, I have had several people inquire about
having this type of class made available.
Then there is Video Technology! This one
nearly caused a divorce before it was over and
yet was my very favorite once the hurdles were
passed. Even my spouse learned something
while I was "enduring" this section. I can
see using this when I have grandchildren.
By then, I might actually understand how to use
the video camera. And last but not least
is Web Mastering. I was so hard headed
when we first ventured into web pages but thanks
to the patience of instructors I am now very
comfortable putting web pages together. It
was during this period I honestly thought about
quitting TATC. I am so glad I didn't!
This has been a rough road and I am glad the
end is in sight but I am so proud of what I have
learned and experienced and survived. I
must have enjoyed it some or I wouldn't have
encouraged another of our teachers to take it
this next year. Oh, and the frustration
level? It is much better!
